Hi grafter1 et al,

...one more regular Pan Arab beam signal is IMN or Al Iraqiya TV on 12527V 2500, slightly weaker than the others but locked OK.

12.527 V 2500 ~ much better Signal Quality reading indicating I'm quite close to getting a lock (I'll keep checking this one)

I've been checking this one regularly but have never managed to get a signal lock... however... when I checked this transponder/frequency a short time ago I got a signal lock straight away... I was very surprised as this happened immediately after a hail storm...

12.527 V [2500] 3/4 DVB-S [QPSK] 3456 Kbps [FSS Pan-Arab Beam]

Al-Iraqiya TV [VPID 0033/APID 0036/PPID 0033] FTA

TM 5402 HD CI+ Super+
Signal Strength 93%
Signal Quality 49%

I've attached a few pictures below...

Hi again all,

I've just found something else... a feed on a transponder/frequency that I've never seen a signal on before...

12.536 V [3890] 3/4 DVB-S QPSK [FSS Pan-Arab Beam]

Feed ID: ericsson [VPID 0308/APID 0256/PPID 8190] FTA

TM 5402 HD CI+ Super+
Signal Strength 93%
Signal Quality 57%

I've attached a few pictures below...

Been trying throughout the morning and early afternoon on all the above parameters but got absolute zilch.

Then tried blind scanning 30.5E but all I got were several of the strongest transponders from the 28E cluster. Should have known better by now!

TM5402/TD110/IBU

Hi killdeer,

You have to be spot-on with dish alignment to get anything from this satellite... and with no active transponder signal stored on your receiver you have no point of reference... don't give up... it sounds like you have gone slightly too far towards 28.2°E/28.5°E

Best Wishes,
Zorch

Cheers Zorch for those words of encouragement.

I'll nudge the dish slightly eastwards and see if that makes a difference.

Edit. Can't get a sniff of anything despite the sky being cloudless. Think I might try an earlier patch, I'm on 136 at present.

Does anyone else find that sometimes with just a quick press of the button to move say east the motor starts and then stops very quickly while at other times it keeps going for much longer before stopping?

Hi again killdeer,

The best transponder to try would be this one...

12.536 V [3890] 3/4 DVB-S QPSK [FSS Pan-Arab Beam]

Feed ID: ericsson [VPID 0308/APID 0256/PPID 8190] FTA

You could also try adding the feed channel manually... it may help you...

Menu > Edit Channels > Add Channels > Select Feed Transponder Frequency > Enter VPID / APID / PPID > Yellow button = Save

I hope this helps...

Zorch

Still no good Zorch but thanks for helping.

With this patch 136, I just can't tell if I'm getting any signal at all. Might 117 be a good alternative?

Hi again killdeer,

You've got no chance of finding the satellite if you're using one of the more recent patches... I've always used 117p it's the best one for fringe-reception... have a try mate... you'll then be able to see the true (fluctuating) signal strengths and you'll also be able to align your dish to the satellite much more accurately...

When you have loaded 117p use the DVB-S2 transponder 12.656 V [1660] and tweak your dish until you obtain the maximum amount of Signal Quality possible... you will then be bang-on the satellite...

I hope this helps...

Hi again all,

I've never been able to get a lock this feed transponder before...

12.731 V [2000] 7/8 DVB-S QPSK [Pan-Arab Beam]

Feed ID: AWTAN TV02 [VPID 0512/APID 4112/PPID 0512] FTA

TM 5402 HD CI+ Super+
Signal Strength 85%
Signal Quality 57%

The feed originally had on-screen graphics (see pictures) which look remarkably like the menu on a DVD disc burnt with Nero... I've seen this on a feed before... I believe it's an EBU waiting to send video from the disc... please ignore the time on the pictures... the feed sent the receivers' clock crazy...

The feed is still active but is currently just showing a black screen...

Best Wishes,
Zorch

I eventually managed to get a signal lock on this feed transponder again a short time ago... this transponder/frequency and associated feed is without doubt the most frustrating I have ever come across... to say it is difficult to get a lock on this is an understatement... however the wait paid off and I was able to get some pictures of an actual live studio feed...

The feed is currently still active... has anyone else tried to get this one...?

I've attached a few pictures below...

first catch of this bird tonight using a skybox F3, generic 115cm off-set dish and inverto black ultra single..

ARABSAT 5A PAN-ARAB BEAM

I.M.N. 12.526.V.2500 DVBS/MPEG2/FTA SS90% SQ53%

MTV 12.656.V.1660 DVBS/MPEG2/FTA SS90% SQ35%

SUDAN TV 12.721.V.3000 DVBS/MPEG2/FTA SS90% SQ39%

when you look at the footprint maps it seems impossible but this is the fun of fringe reception and just goes to show that with cheap equipment its still possible to catch the odd weak signal. thanks to @digi247 for the heads up,regards mdt
