Hi peeps,

Want to mount a plasma or lcd on my chimney brest and use where the fire used to be for the dvd player, sky, ******, etc... gonn put glass shelfs in with some dim lighting.... but not sure what tv i can get... I like the viera ones and sony ones etc...

The width is 49 inch to the edge of the brick work so will likly have 53inchs once plastered... Im sitting about 8ft away, closest is about 7ft.

What i need to know is the width measurements of say a 42inch... an 40inch... and if you lot think the distances are ok for viewing

Heres some pics to give idea of layout etc... I intend to put hole in the wall for wiring etc and drop it though and down into the fire opening... going to board out the opening and have a wiring channel down the side....

If ya's dont get what I mean I can paint edit them to show badly what i mean lol

I have a panasonic th42p 42 inch plasma and it is 40 in wide and 28 in high

I went for the Samsung 40"
It's 39" x 24 1/2"
You'll need to know where all the sockets are on the back of the telly you're going to get, so that you knock the hole through the chimney breast in the right place.
Mine enter the set bottom left as viewed from the front.

I did mine recently and decided to take the chimney breast out. No easy job, but gave a nice flat wall that I can do what I like with.
All my av gear is in a cupboard.

There are some photo's in this thread.

Hmm tempting to take it out now lol..!

Although being a council house, i dont think they will have it somehow... and would want it done by pro's at alot of cost id imagine... did the joists go into the actual chimney or through into the actual main wall ?

What I might do is have a box section plastered into the firebrest... and feed wires though this, not sure yet.... although like the idea of taking out the chimney... but goes right up through the house lol...
