is this right ?

my drive was a hitachi 49 drive which went tits up so i managed to get a hitachi 46 pcb and swap it round is the only thing i need to do is change the key on the pcb and flash iextream onto it and it should work or do i still need to spoof the drive

Well, there isnt a v49 drive - so yes you are wrong.

Well, its only 4 extra clicks and yes you should spoof ;)

does anyone have a good tut for spoofin drives using toolbox

Tools->Flash Sting ID (Spoof Data)

^That simple

Well, Hitachi->Hitachi it is ;)

can this be done on a drive that has iextream already installed ?

Yes Hitachi to Hitachi

The important thing to remember when spoofing with hitachi's is

Make sure you spoof last.

If you spoof before inserting key, Toolbox wont work with a Hitachi reporting as a Sammy/BenQ

Think 5 steps ahead and you should be fine.
Drive X to Hitachi (different revison PCB)

Get into modeb, set key--->Tools-->Direct Drive Flash (flash keys)

Then

Flash string ID (spoof data)

Select drive (sammy/hitachi/benq)

thanks oggy i have done the little tut and everything seems to be ok until i put a disk in comes up either open tray or unreadable disk does this mean that it has not went correct

What discs? what have you actually done?

Unpatched games? List could be endless with no specific details.

ok i flashed the drive with ixtream 1.4 then followed the tut you said done a re read of the drive gives the correct key etc

now when i place a good verb dsk in it either says unplayable or open tray and the same with original game

Have you plugged the sata cable back in the drive? (sounds daft I know)

When redumping the firmware, what does the drive string report as?

Load the original firmware into Toolbox and use Differential Flash / Restore

can anyone tell me when ever i try to flash i keep getting unable to verify
