All the different procesors?

In my quest to find a new laptop I have noticed my different processors - I have seen the i3, i5, i7, Intel Pentium T etc! What are the differences between the processors and which one is the best? For example I have noticed high spec reasonably priced Toshiba laptops with a Pentium T4500 processor - this being much cheaper than the i7 with the same spec.

T series is previous generation, but absolutely nothing wrong with them

i series is the newer one, offer better power saving and a few other features.

As a very rough comparison. T4xxx = i3 and T6xxx = i5
