trying to fit the dishwasher in the kitchen and cant get the bloody stopcok turned enough to switch off the water to the taps. It is a cold water feed so have got a y connector that I am going to connect to where the cold feed goes off to the washing machine. Any of u guys know a simple way of switching off th water>?? cheers

do you not have a shut off valve on the washing machine connector tap ? turn it off there, connect Y connector where pipe comes off the connector, then connect pipes to Y connector ?

If no cut off valve there, then thats your first mistake. lol

If your main stopcock is fubberd mate, id get a plummer in to replace it asap... there should be a main stopcock outside the house...front or rear. you will have to turn water off there, then replace the stopcock.

You should be able to turn it off in the street outside your house.
Either that or turn it off the best you can inside and open a tap below the level of the point you're working on to release any water that's passing.

have you turned off clock wise .
or is it a combi

yeah its turned as far as it can go clockwise... cant get it any further round and there is still low pressure water coming through. On the washing machine connector tap there isnt a handle on it so I cant turn it, even with a pair of pliers gripping it, it still wont go round to block it off there.... :(

You need stopcock replacing.
If you cant turn off outside (usually in footpath outside your house) then freezing may be an option, You can buy spray to freeze for an hour or so.
