acer laptop probs

Hi stepeon has acer travelmate 202t he got it in job lot of comp stuff prob is when you switch on a small comp & symble come up & dont go any ferther. never seen this before can't evn get to boot options so I could boot from disc & format it think it has 98 on but not sure. T.I.A :THANKS:

What do you mean by "a small comp and symble"?

It gets a computer & key symble asking for password ? but dosn't start up first this is on first screen that comes up.

sounds like a bios password
u will need to unlock it
way i found is if u remove the bios battery
u will have to open up the laptop
leave it off for about 3 mins
then u will have to go into bios and set it up again

but should sort it

Might also be a jumper on the board you need to short to clear the CMOS. Try the battery removal trick first, if that doesn't work, Google for the mainboard/laptop model and see if you can find a diagram for the board jumpers.
