Hi folks I have had a good look on the forums and noticed that if your display says 88:88 people seem to think the box is knackered I recently had the same problem after doing led SIMMs mod I then checked all the connections on the simm with a meter and found no shorts or any thing wrong after much frustration I noticed that I had left I tiny bit of flux on the solder pads I removed it with alcohol and it worked the box is back to life and working perfectly so if any body has the same problem check that the simm if perfectly clean I can only think that there was a slight resistance with the flux as all the contacts where clean.

I hope this helps some people out there

You are right, the flux leaves a residue which has a resistance accross it(measured by a SIR value:surface insulation resistance) it is a good idea to keep the iron there just long enough to burn the excess flux away and to give the area a brush or clean with a solvent IPA (alcohol)usually.
