720p or 1080i best?

which is the best setting to have on a 42" lcd 720p or 1080i using a v+box

I would try both with some test patterns and decide from there. if your TV is 720p I'd send it that signal, if its 1080p try the 1080i signal first.

Truthfully you would be hard pressed to see any difference.

These are my findings and no way should be taken as gospel:

The V+ box seems to have it's menus (EPG) written for 720p. Using 1080i seems to blur the menu system so just stick it on 720p for now. Hopefully Virgin will release a new software version for the box that will use 1080i without the blurring.

But, 1080i does look better on the BBC HD channel (unless you are watching fast moving stuff).

It can depend on the TV on how it responds to the video signal and processes it.

720p is a good quality display

Your TV will always output at its native resolution regardless of the input - so the answer is yes.

I got my v+box set as 1080 but cant say if its a better pic then 720

I always found 720p preferable to 1080i for video images
