7,000 homes block visits from the TV licence

They literally badgered me for over 12 months with threatening letters until the day of the visit when I did,nt refuse them entry i explained that the entry fee to my house was £49.75p cash for the licencing officer but seeing as i was already paying the accompanying policemans wages via my poll tax then he could come in F.O.C.

The licensing officer asked why if i had,nt any TV equipment at the property (which at that time i had,nt) had i not filled in the form and returned it to which i explained i,d better things to do with my time than to waste it doing someone else s job for them.

The point here is your not refusing entry to your property but instead establishing a tariff which the licensing officer wont pay to wit no entry is given.

Ps ive since occupied the property and of course purchased a TV licence albeit not in my name :ASSFLASH:

licencing officer you do not have let them in unless they got court warrant

I did,nt see a warrant but presumed because pc plod accompanied him it was official ?.

Essef

Plod is there to keep the peace and can't serve the warrant, the Crapita goon has to do that, If he had one, but they usually only get one if the court had sufficient evidence that someone was watching telly or they incriminated themselves via the 178 form.

be aware, scots law differs from english law in some cases...

you cannot withdraw presumed right of access in Scotland because there is no tresspassing law as such..

you still have the right to refuse access to your home right enough.

I wish someone would clarify the situation.

is it the act of watching/ recording live tv or is it having the capability to record/watch tv?

Think this applies UK-wide.

"You need to be covered by a valid TV Licence if you watch or record TV as it's being broadcast. This includes the use of devices such as a computer, laptop, mobile phone or DVD/video recorder."

tvlicensing.co.uk/check-if-you-need-one

The wording they use in letters is to make you think you need a licence for just owning a TV. However, if you only watch catch-up TV, DVDs or play games on your TV there is no need for a licence. I wouldn't bother officially informing them that you don't need one either as that is just a way of keeping tabs on you. It would be like constantly telling the DVLA you don't have a car of the government that you don't need a rod licence for fishing.

I've seen some disturbing videos where the goon gets into someone's house and starts switching their computers on looking like he doesn't know what he's doing. Looking for evidence of TV watching apparently but these people have as much authority as the milkman.

How invasive is that?

Correct. Although you can't record "live" TV and then watch it (think of the recording being the same as watching it "live"). Although I believe you could watch recorded catch-up TV, if that is possible.

They make it difficult to understand on purpose :).

I just pay my licence fee, its not worth the hassle.. knowing my other half she would let them in whilst im at work..

But, as soon as there is a revolt on the licence fee. i will be the first one to cancel mine.. I am already on the edge of not paying so a slight change would tip me over!

But you have no choice but to pay whether you want it or not

I don't believe anyone does not watch at some time these channels.
If all tv was commercial, then we are doomed to watching 42 min programmmes over 60 mins with 5 commercial like USA.

catch up tv now included

also BBC to foot the bill for the elderly licence free

could get interesting

Where did you find that out?

Their site still has:

"If you only ever watch on demand programmes, you don’t need a TV Licence. On demand includes catch-up TV, streaming or downloading programmes after they’ve been shown on live TV, or programmes available online before being shown on live TV."

I wouldn't miss anything on telly and have went months without switching it on before. Lets see what I'd not have, bearing in mind that the "BBC Licence Fee" is not just for the BBC channels (freeview)...

  • Biased news
  • Adverts for ~15 minutes per hour
  • Storage Hunters
  • Storage Wars
  • Storage Wars UK
  • Salvage Hunter
  • Container Wars
  • Auction Hunters
  • Baggage Battles
  • Salvage Dawgs
  • Other assorted staged auction programs, OK Salvage Hunter may be less staged but I'm not going to sell him a table for £300 that he is going to flog for £4000. Where did he get £60 parts required to refurbish a 1950s lamp? Show me somewhere where I can buy obscure 1950s industrial machinist's lamp spares please. Next to the vacuum cleaner belts at the local hardware shop?
  • Location, Location, Location (Is there ever not an interracial couple on this?)
  • Grand Designs (Is there ever a straight couple on this?)
  • About ten other property porn programs that are likely staged, does anyone ever actually buy a place they view?
  • Benefits this that or the other
  • Total shit, chewing gum for the eyeballs.

My fear is that the licence will be moved into general taxation to extort money which I shouldn't have to pay. I know a few people who only watch DVDs and have no need to pay this fee.

imo people only use the legal loophole to block access if they legally also need a license but for whatever reason wont pay it. I havent had a TV license for about 10 years. Ive had arguments with one of their goons who tried to get me to sign a document saying he had witnessed live channels on my tv, even though he hadnt. They randomly turn up roughly every 3 years, i politely let them in if im not busy, hand them the TV remote, and within 2 minutes they are on their way. within a week ill get a letter thanking me for allowing them to keep their records up to date, and i wont hear another thing for about 3 years

i dont need to legally revoke their access, as i dont need a license. yes when they turn up i normally have numerous satellite receivers piled up, but, on their random visit they cannot find any live tv being broadcast on my tv, as, i dont actually watch tv myself

pretty sure they are implementing catch up tv bbc iplayer when the changes arrive
