I made the mistake of buying a 1080i lcd a bit ago and have had my xbox set on 720p resolution but the other day I thought I'd try 1080i to see if there was any difference and to be honest I'm not sure I can tell..

Some say 720p is better, what does anyone think out of curiosity??

i dont know the full ins and outs but, most of the hd tvs out at first where only 720 but downscaled 1080 to 720. i have noticed befor with my sonhy bravia if it downscales 1080 the picture does look a little fuzzy but on 720 it doesnt

The i and the p are the key bits.

i stands for interlaced, while p stands for progressive. a 1080i tv is a higher resolution than a 720p one, but if you want true HD then you need a 1080p set.

Most broadcasts are no way near these resolutions however, unless its an HD channel. Apparently, most HD channels are not at 1080p, instead they are at 720p or 1080i.

I got all this from Stuff magazine from today, there was a handy guide to HD in there.

I have a 50" 1080p Plasma and its great for my 360 and ps3, but when I have my V+ on, I have to have the settings of the V+ on 720 as it just looks a little bit fuzzy when you bring up the options etc, BBC HD on there is fine, but the rest aint nothing to write home about, yes it upscales, but its poo on 1080 on V+.

Thats my 2 pennies worth :)
