I have borrowed a brand new F3/5 to try with 27.5w, flashed it with 125p etc, tried it with an HDD connected, recording is much improved, managed to record BBC1 HD whilst watching ITV HD, playback was fine, however, anything faster than 8x search caused problems, either causing the picture to freeze up or even locking the box up completely requiring it to be rebooted.

All in all though it seems to be the best patch yet for us ex pats.

Did this echo your findings with the 5402M3? Mine didn't perform any better.

Yes, as the M3 and F3/5 are basically the same, 125p definitely improved the recording on both to acceptable levels (on 27.5W). SSD does not seem to have any advantage over HDD being used as a recording media, maybe due to the fact that the write speed is not that much different, it is the much faster read speed which is the great benefit of an SSD, bear in mind also that SSD's have a 'limited' read/write life as opposed to HDD. The general consensus of opinion is that SSD's are ideally suited as read-only drives, similar to ROM and that HDD's should be used as RAM, so in a PC, for example, you would put your OS and Programs on the SSD and use a HDD as your 'working' drive. The SSD would give you lightening start-up and execution speeds of programs, whereas the HDD would store all your working data and back-ups etc.

Hope that makes sense!
