Hi Guys,

Having had a 5402 for all of 2 weeks now and can safely say i know it inside and out, I am now looking at a linux box preferably the 800 or maybe one of the VU+ boxes or another brand.

I know whats coming a linux box is a big step up but i have had some practice on the cable side with the Dbox2's, What i need to know is do you use something similar like flashfxp or the like to add and retrieve info from the box as well as edit bouquets and the like.

So my question really is the 800 now a bit long in the tooth and are other makes such as the VU+,Extrend the future or has the 800 still got a few more tricks up its sleeve.

Not after an all singing all dancing linux box just something to watch satellite on and maybe do a bit of tinkering now and again, Been out of the sat/cable scene for a while but the last 2 weeks have given me the hunger back LOL.

Thanks for any input all appreciated

The tm800 is the one pulling tricks out of its sleeve m8, with the last iQ release, it now plays media files that my Vu+ and original DM800 cannot. Without accounting for clone receivers, its also the cheapest HD linux receiver out there

you can use FTP software to transfer files, and dreamboxedit for boquets etc

If you had asked 2 weeks ago about a tm800 I would have said keep clear but the latest image does everything I want it to do.

There are still problems I think with some hdd's but it's not a problem for me and now the media player is working (I believe some bits don't but they don't affect me) I am happy with the box.

Last week I was looking at a dm800 but am glad I waited as this now at long last does what I wanted it to do.

If your used to a dbox2 you will find the tm800 runs enigma not neutrino, there is only 1 hd box I know of that runs neutrino and I am not sure if the image is upto the standard of the tm800 yet.

I prefer neutrino but will live with enigma to have a working image.

I agree with Digi, the TM is starting to pull all the tricks, whilst not perfect at the moment, but certainly getting better every couple of weeks

My suggestion for you mate, is hold your horses and watch this space and maybe in 5 or 6 weeks there will be a clear winner

Digi I think the Qbox HD mini is actually the cheapest none clone HD Linux receiver but I could be wrong.

I agree with elli and digidude
it took long time to be what it is now few day weeks will be near perfect
i use multimedia/cline/internal sata pvr with Seagate hard disk works for me i am very happy with it.
OK 97% of files can play who cars other 3% it does more than DM and vu+ in my personal opinion slowly this box is wining the heart of linux open source hobbyist:banana::banana::banana::banana:

Thanks Guy's,

For all the helpful reply's looks like i may pull the trigger on buying one of these in the next few days, I am not too concerned about the file playing side of this box i have a HTPC for this, I am more interested in just normal sat viewing and the linux sharing side.

Just a few more quick questions again if i could, Whats the tuner in the 800 like compared to the 5402 tuner and is the card reader multicrypt form standard or is it made multicrypt from one of the images and lastly is CCCAM as stable as it is on the 5402.

Thanks to all.

I never used a 5402 but I can tell you the picture quality on the 800 has to be one of its strongest points, I personally have not seen a receiver better.

I am led to believe the CCCAM is very stable too, maybe another member could confirm this

i dont 'use' CCcam myself, but from what ive tested on it, it works fine. as with all linux receivers, the function of the card reader will depend on what card server software you load onto the receiver, but it reads just about everything as long as the actual software is configured correctly

ive never really looked at the Qboxes as i thought that even though they are linux based, that they were'nt open like dreamboxes, vu+, TM and others, i may be wrong though but i thought they were a closed form of linux, id happily get one to play with if the price was right

From what ive seen of the new iQ's work, if it carries on like it has for the past 2-3 weeks, and this progress continues for the next month or so, then the TM800 could become SERIOUS competition to ALL linux receivers out there. I class my top 3 linux boxes as my (in no order) TM800, DM800 {original not clone} and Vu+ Duo, and in the last few days, has gone from being the bottom of the 3, to a top contender for the best of the 3, based solely on the media functions as i dont actually watch much 'live' tv

in its current state, but with a twin tuner, it would be the best box i own

I think there could be a twin tuner on the cards ? you mention it in 2 posts :Hit:

Thanks again Guys for all the helpful insight into this box looks like i am going shopping tomorrow LOL:proud:

now how could i possibly know what may or may not happen in the future m8 :)

How near in the future can you not see mate? They can have this bloody one back and swap it for a twin tuner for all the grief it's caused

Cccam works perfect with this as a client and server.

Wow I havent checked in here for a while not being an actual tm800 owner but I have always said that I would like one if the thing could read 0963 card with internal card reader and function with cccam alone as a server, I know cccam is slowly becoming the least preferred option at the minute due the functionality of oscam for certain channels, so my question is this, " is anyone using oscam on the tm800 and the internal reader" if so I'l be shoppping myself next week.

How is oscam superior to cccam in reading the white card mate?
Cheers,

CCCam doesnt clear picktv due to different encryption algorithm used on this channel by SLY, Oscam is apparently the only softCAM that is clearing pick tv. So if SLY decide to move any any other channels onto this encryption scheme, CCcam wont clear them.

cheers for that.
I guess i'll have to familiarise myself to the workings of OScam if more channels will follow. don't really watch tv myself

thanks again,
Crazy

Hi Again,

Managed to bag myself an 800 today and got it all setup with the latest iQ image and so forth, Anyway got it all running nicely with CCcam and have had a good play about with the controls tonight great machine i love it or i thought i did.

Just been browsing PLTV on 10 east for the past hour and the picture is breaking up all the time even though i have 84% quality. So i decided to stick my nearly 2 week old 5402 on there and guess what not a single problem at all perfect picture even give me the same signal reading on the box at 84%.

My question is this the tuner on the 800 could this be faulty or could i have possibly got hold of an old stock 800 that has not been upgraded if so how do i tell if it has been upgraded or not.

Thanks for any help guy's

lift the lid off and read the label on the tuner,
should say something like alps-801A M (which is the latest i believe)

this is a pretty common problem with all of the clones.
channels that work flawlessly on other boxes might show issues on the clones.
this is especially magnified with poor quality/old/rusted/damaged satellite equipment.

i have the same issue on a ten year old j something cheap cable from my last sly install but it doesn't happen between original-clone on another feed off the same satelite run through webro wf100.

and cheers dd ;)
