hi all, sorry if i should post this in 1 of the moans about the TM800HD

this is my first box, so still learning about satellite etc, and with this box i have learned very fast lol

i have had enough of this box and need to replace it with something that will work and suits my needs, im giving it to charity....well my dad will get it, he wont use it much, except for saturdays @ 3pm.

my budget will be 200 - 350, the specs below are what i would like & hopefully somebody has or knows the right receiver for me?

required specs:

1 - HD & be able to record (internal a great bonus as got a 320gb in the TM800HD) always could get a external caddy if need be.
2 - must be able to watch the channels via web browser & be able to view from my ipad - i have bought the dreambox ipad app (im sure it would connect to other decent boxes, it connects to the TM800HD and changes channels but no picture or sound)
3 - not lock up everyday would be a great bonus
4 - must have good support for images etc
5 - loop through support (i am going to get a technomate 500 super for the bedroom, cheaper and easier than going up on the roof)

i hope somebody can give me pros and cons of a few receivers, i have seen reviews of the ET9000 and duo but dont think the duo supports loop through, but am i right in thinking the duo has better support?

any help appreciated

Shakin

The duo doesnt have an lnb loopthrough, but, using any receiver like this, the receiver on the 'end' of the line will only be able to access channels on the same band as the 'main' receiver, so up to 3/4 of channels will be unavailable at any one time

the duo is a decent receiver, i run the vix image on one, but theres quite a few little things that tooke me ages to work out, and the epg does what it wants when it wants, which annoys me a bit, as every other receiver i have has a perfect epg running on it

it may be worth waiting untill thursday before ordering anything else though to 'replace' your TM800 ;)

thanks digidude for quick reply

as for the loopthrough, i would put the main unit in standby, before watching the box in the bedroom, would that then be ok?

i suppose waiting till thursday wont be too bad, but does that mean i might get a nice working box? lol

i guess thursday or friday with saturday delivery will have to be what i will need to do, as want to get it all sorted this coming weekend

thanks again digidude

If the OP orders a replacement box on thursday, itll be delivered friday, ready to fit by the weekend, but, you never know whats round the corner, and by thursday, he may decide he no longer wants to get shot of his TM800...........

thanks digidude for quick reply

as for the loopthrough, i would put the main unit in standby, before watching the box in the bedroom, would that then be ok?

this would all depend m8. If i use the loopthru on my DM800 (original) and put the DM800 into standby, the end receiver gets no signal on ALL channels, and my receivers connected to the same dish would also show no signal, as though the motor had moved a few degrees as it powered down

ive not actually tried this with the TM800 though m8

never had any trouble with epg on my duo .
Just do not use rytec..use open tv.
rytec servers are unreliable to say the least.

Thanks all for your advice, I have made a decision (hopefully the right 1)

Tomorrow I will be ordering a VU+ solo  I won't be needing the loop through due to this app on the iPad will solve my issue Dreambox LIVE

Guess next plan will be finding info etc on how to flash it & install everything to get me up & running & a happy customer

Cheers

Shakin

I would spend that little extra and get the Duo mate now available for under £300

instead of loopthru why not stick in a triax tri link kit and use a sky type ir eye in bedroom, no need to buy second box as you will have full control of the main box in the second tv location, assuming there is a coax cable running from your main tv location to bedroom, if not try a wireless av sender I dont like these personally but if needs must they are ok, try a 5.8ghz model opposed to a 2.4ghz as they could interfere with your wireless router.
Also consider the TM5402HD.. does what you want i think..

Thanks all for the info

Mickbrush - if the duo is under £300 would you happen have a link of where I could get it please?

A lot of my searches are showing £329 - £349

Cheers

I agree, wouldnt bother with VU SOLO overpriced...got for the DUO instead especially if you can get it for under 300.

Or look at DM800HD clone at around 125 quid...recording to internal SATA, timeshift etc all works fine, streaming also works fine with VLC. Dreamdroid streaming to android phones works as well. Deams have the best range of images and support of any Linux recievers on the market.

Can even get a Dm8000HD clone for 370, quad tuner support, DVD drive ready etc...

A Dm500HD clone is also on the market... But basically if you dont want a clone your best bet probably VU DUO...I would say Value for money Duolabs QBOX Mini HD looks good...twin tner engima 2 for 200 quid...but i not sure the software does all yuo want it to... does not have internal SATA HD support, has USB port for external flash drive or hard disk PVR. Not sure if the streaming works...There are no real software supoort teams behind the box, although all basic features are reported to work Ok. I have seen one in action running RADAR with a C-line and seems pretty good.

If you want a Linux reciever you definitely know NOT to buy a TM one again !

thanks again for all the advice..... i have just ordered the duo

i ordered it from www.sat-shop.co.uk - very helpful chap

i am so looking forward to a working box :proud:

never TM ever again, that will be my first and last :SHOOTING:Technomate

hope all the editing of files will be the same eg cccam.cfg and newcs, guess wont be long in finding out :Smokin:

This is really fantastic.:proud::proud::proud:
members advising different brands in tm section without bothering to test or read Very SAAAAAAD:proud::proud::proud:
do not waist money in a more expensive but with less functions or buying clones
before wasting your time and money
at £199 what else do you want please read and test first.

As a beta tester for last 2 weeks i have been testing iQ images to make sure they do as they promises and it has been done,
Also they will carry on UR team promise .I really can not understand why some members are complaining instead of praising what this team has done in about 2 weeks which ur could not do in last 10 month
Please test latest image then make comments .I am sure iQ team will come out with timetable and will do it.
just itemize after testing this image what do you want that makes you happy.
Green screen is history now
flash memory management is fixed no more problem no more hang-up
comparing to vu+solo side by side same channels solo is 0.5 seconds faster
in channel change is that big deal
----------
1.Flash memory capacity indicator (It will stop downloading the capacity comes below than 1MB)
2.Improved Stability (No more frequent green screen) ; Fixed some wrong script and memory management.
3-5-MB extra memory to add any extras.DW team already increased it to 10MB
4-seagate 320GB and 500 GB tested in sata record play OK western digital and fujitsu failed
5-After factory flash will be cleared totally.
6-Media player was disabled as iQ team believe it has to be 100% before they add on very soon will bne fixed
----------------------------
above is an achievement with first image wait a bit longer see as more coming
I have tested this image for long time could not see any green screen or hang-ups it works really good
much better then any image in the past.:Clap::Clap:

Dr Dumb Ass why don`t you read the thread Shakin1234 already made the request for a different box, people offered helpful advice. The guy has made his decision and people can understand why.

Maybe he will be happy with his TM800 as a second box and when/if its ever fully sorted he may change his mind about TM products. after all he is a customer and the customer is always right.

Dr Linux if the tm800 delivered what it promised 12 months ago most people would not be recommending other boxes today.

it also looks like the people who are recommending another box rather than buy a tm800 are ex owners of the tm800 speaks volumes

Dr Linux have you got a duo ?
It's a rock solid box that does everything you want.
You can't blame people for switching from a tm800 that promised everything to a box that delivers everything.

mickbrush
Getting rude is one of your arrogant
not testing whats offered today .
if you spend few minutes testing it then you might wake up to reality of today not last 10 month.
so
getting rude is the best you can offer ,also there toomany brands that should get sold in the market
my comments is not that everybody should buy tm there many good boxes in the market as well.
my point is first of all being very polite as I got strong character and do not display my weaknesses in getting rude
to make my point.
if anybody ask my advise I will tell them pros and cons not just cons
at £199 today with what tm800 offers can you tell me what I should buy
solo which has less then 50% of hardware and over 30% more expensive is that good advise .

=====================================
bassethound
DM took over several years of using customers as genie pigs to test their bugs
even up till today toomany green screens and bugs.not finished yet
if you think any Linux will finish that's good dream
jugging by today image not 10 month ago
also it took macsys maifacturar of vu+over 18 month nearly finish with help of DM application and core which was 90% finished by DM before they started
so cloning DM and renaming re boxing as vu+ is an achievements ,
as vu+ lost court case in Germany for copying DM
dm can not touch tm as tm is not copy.
=============================
charlie senator
I have vu+ solo and twin as beta tester also have clacktech and xtrend
many more ,yes I test all these boxes
it is ok as it is DM clone not anything from mrcsys manufacturing also chine's do as well it does not make them
adventures .NXP was a adventures step not copy or cloning.
=====================================
Please test latest image if you Owen one of these boxes then make comment as per today
if you really go back to month ago then that's very SAD:proud: as non of you recover to reality of today
I spent hours testing too many brands .
I do not like ready on the plat it bores me want to work for it and being adventures .
to find why crashing why getting green screen
that's the pleasure of hobbyist.
=========================
I do not blame anybody test first and do a bit of reserch ,,,do not look for old files
to write what they think but bit of research and test will help to give correct advise on the day not old reference .
my understand is if all you were judges criminal will die in jail,
non of want to see to days achievements

Thanks all except Dr Linux (doubt you are real doctor, maybe like Dr Fox here in the uk?) anyway.

It seems that you must be the luckiest owner in the world, as you don't have any issues with the box. I have read lots of your comments in different threads, and your TM800HD sounds like it's better than a dream box 8000 original, but 5th of the price.

The TM800HD might have good specs on paper, but ain't much use if the software don't make it work.

Owning this is probably like owning a ferrari, eg works well for a bit and then breaks down, or battery is always flat. Speaking of Ferrari, they are owned by fiat, and fiat stands for Fix It Again Tomorrow lol

I do feel that I have been mislead & wasted my money, imagine you buy a nice new car & the power steering stops working every other day. You take it back to the dealership, they say don't worry it will be fixed soon......soon never comes, only 1 solution (apart from trying to get your money back, which ain't likely) and that 1 solution is sell it and get something that works & reliable = simples!
