OK so youve read that the source was coming, then you read that it was available to teams, well, now its also available to YOU.

fancy having a go?
think you can fix it?

heres the details that you need

its not a link m8, its for linux access to a file server to allow you to create your own copy of the source code, and allow you to make your own images

Finally open access for anyone as long as you know how to use linux lol... Might have a look but doubt I will personally be able to do anything unless there is a batch file to compile the acutal image.

I hope to see good things happen with the TM800 in next few weeks but I hope everyone remembers that these images will still be beta images. Im sticking with trusted teams ;)

Off topic but are TM releasing the code for the TM500 Super too?

Hi,

Thanks for the news. I'm just having a look at the moment at the svn.

If anybody is going to have a look, and like me you just copy and paste the link please remove the space after the 2 forward slashes.

A wee idea.

Since most of us don't have a fecking clue how to manipulate this source code, wouldn't this be an ideal opportunity for those of us interested in fiddling with the code to start trying to learn?

It means we would all be starting at the same time and we would all reach the more trickier stages at the same time and should be able to help each other.

Perhaps those with the Linux skills could give us little tutorials to get us started.

I've got a few questions.

Does the code have to manipulated within a Linux environment or is there any sort of Windows plugin that would allow us to do it?

Can it be done from a Linux LiveCD or must it be a full install?

Which flavour of Linux is best for this type of thing?

maybe we could start a TM800 image school like I think it was ellie1998 set up for the Dreambox a few years ago :)

@Witchy,
90% of anything that you would ever want to do is Enigma2 code and that is all Python.
From my own very recent experience, Python is more comfortable to work with in Win environment, and so are the SVN tools. Not starting a debate - my experience, period.

The other 10% would be Linux shell scripts.

As far as seeing the result of any changes/work that you have done, you can test shell (command line) scripts in Linux or a number of Win-emulators, linux-under-windows sort of thing.
The simplest; dwld the VMWare Player and any pre-built Ubuntu VM, or create your own. Anything from version 8.xx up will work just fine - the later the better, of course.

Python... basic code (and learning) can be done under Win, easily - good IDE/editors available (PyScripter).

Enigma code changes or new code/plugins?
Forget it - the only thing you can do (and should do!) is to test-run it right on your TM800. There is no such thing as "DVB/STB" emulator for any environment - not that it offers full functionality and that it can be trusted to be fool-proof.

ok, so running a Linux virtual machine will take care of the scripts and the main bulk of the Python code and SVN can be handled quite happily from within windows itself?

What are IDE Editors?

Could someone knock up a little shopping list of required software?

So far all I know is..

VM Ware/Player
Linux ISO
SVN Tool

Not sure how to get Python on my machine.

similar to the school and plenty of info i posted years ago in the old cable school:) which was removed lol

@Witchy:

Download Python
Version that TM800HD E2 is (currently) based on is 2.5,
soon going up to 2.6,
with 2.7 being the latest (and last) of the same (compatible) branch of Python.
So, do NOT bother looking into versions 3.x, Enigma is not compatible with that.

IDE, or (very smart) Editor = Integrated Development Environment. I have no big experience there, with Python that is, but for me, Downloads - pyscripter works really well and is VERY helpful with code referencing, in and out of the current module, which is 99% of Python complexity. :)

TortoiseSVN downloads - TortoiseSVN for Win, integrates into WinExplorer magnificently,

plus SVN-Monitor, which works with Tortoise (a "frontend") to constantly monitor the configured remote code repositories, show you the change logs, etc. Brilliant tools, both of them, 100% free (GPL).

Standard Diff-Merge tools are built in, which is all that is necessary for SVN processes.

However, for large repositories and studying the code "from scratch", I use an external tool which for me is the BEST(est) :) file-comparison tool I have ever heard off. Download Beyond Compare. Compares anything, works with whole directory structures, best piece of software ever. 30 days trial, worth every penny to purchase, especially since Win+Linux licence is only $48.

Now, stop asking questions, get it done! ;)

Re: TM800 source code. PUBLIC!! Can we stay on topic

Can we stay on topic ? :) All this mod shouting is a waste of time.
Hail to the new mods and the 'old' mods know what they are worht and still worth.

Anyway would it not be nice to have the 500/600 source as well ?
In Belgium we have some saying : Who says 'A' Must Say ...

So about this tm800hd source code which I don't own since i'm not convinced.

Does anyone know exactly how to handle this stuff.
What flafour of linux do we best use and surely we need extra compiling stuff.

I' mostly interested in recompiling something for the tm500 that gives me CIFS.
(I discovered in the bootsection that on Hardware ID there is choice that will enable extra modules like CIFS ...)

I'm pretty sure the hardware of a tm500 is almost the same besides More memory and USB hardware. So it must be 100% possible to record over the network with a tm500 by using CIFS protocol which is dissabled for whatever Greedy reason technomate and beloved UR team have.

Anyway this is off topic .... hehe, Must start a new one lol

Good reply wolftje,im sure the TM800 can be a good reciever so lets see what the teams with the source code can produce in terms of an image,if these boys cant produce then i feel sorry for you guys that have the TM800 and need to think the options left too you hopefully they can come through with a decent working image so lets stop the bickering and see what happens

when i posted the original post, i KNEW itd end up arguing on here lol

linux receiver released, people not happy as only UR writing for it
source released to teams, people not happy as not available to everyone
source fully public, people not happy, they dont know what to do with it

RTFM lol

how long has the azbox been out, and only now people are starting to say 'its a good box'

most other linux receivers directly boot dreambox software, and have either timebombs, clone killers, or DMM taking the makers to court over copying

everything is now available for ANYONE to create an image for the TM800, as well as fix any bugs they find along the way, which there is

so instead of bitching about it on a forum, get on google, and look up what you dont know.

its what i spend most nights doing

Ditto I think TM should release the source for the 500/Super and 600 too :)

the 500/600 wasnt marketed as 'open source' so people wasnt shouting and screaming for it like with the tm800

if it wasnt for it saying 'open source' on the box and the adverts, i dont think this would have ever been released (personally)

hello lads,i have a tm500s and on the box it says its open source is that not the case?

Oh dear... must be a misprint on box unless you wasnt talking about the 500 super :proud:
