Which one is better??

Iv used the dm800 but it had a lot of problems:

1) Takes ages to start up
2) Sometimes would not start up at all had to unplug and plug many times!
3) Sometimes freezes on HD channels

The features on TM800HD seem very good!!

Can i play mkv files off external hard drive??

Also is their many images and are they any good to use.

WOuld appericate any replies

cheers

Which one is better??

Genuine or clone?

Genuine, I'd go for the DM800 as it's a brilliant machine with mega support, although it is over priced.

Clone is a different matter altogether.

Iv used the dm800 but it had a lot of problems:

I bet it was a clone. ;)

1) Takes ages to start up

ALL Enigma 2 boxes take ages to load mate, it comes with the territory.

2) Sometimes would not start up at all had to unplug and plug many times!

My clone Dreambox 800 did this too.

Thankfully, the TM800 switches on perfectly fine.

3) Sometimes freezes on HD channels

The TM800 is perfect on HD channels mate.

Infact, it has a superb tuner IMO.

The features on TM800HD seem very good!!

Yes they do, but at this stage they don't actually exist!

Pre-release images had all the features but the box was very unstable so the Devs scrubbed it and are starting over.

New updates are being released almost daily, so it shouldn't be too long before all these features are a reality (fingers crossed).

Can i play mkv files off external hard drive??

Once it has been added yes.

Currently it isn't.

Also is their many images and are they any good to use.

Nope, only 1 dev team working on the inages so far, and as I said even that image is a 'work in progress'.

But don't let this put you off, the important parts on any reciever are the tuner and the GUI, the OSD is the same as your old DM800, but the tuner is far better. I'm sure the TM800 will become a brilliant machine once the image is complete.

And just watch the DM800 sales fall once people realise they can get more or less the same box for almost ยฃ200 cheaper, either that or DMM will drop their prices.

True mate, there are lots of Clone DM800 users who are very happy.

i got 2weeks experimenting on a DM 8000, and actually preferred the DM800 clone I that I got myself......never crashed, never lost bouquets, did FULL HD scan when others had to be added like ITV HD via Dreambox Edit

Yes but what about the tuner?

Are you getting the 'usual suspects' ok?

My clone DM800 never crashed once, but it would simply refuse to turn on, then it would send random DiSeQc commands and move my dish during a movie (lol) almost all Sky HD channels gave me "Tuner Failed". Foreign HDTV was fine though!?

Like you say, it really all depends on your supplier.

I've had many clone DM500, all of which were excellent, whilst others say that had numerous hardware issues.

witchy...i gave u contact...over -priced u said at the time.....but like everything..u get what u pay for.........hand on heart never had any of the issues described

Awesome.

Care to tell me who you bought it from? :)

I'd love a working clone DM800.

pm m8..............

Cheers mate.

I do remember getting that supplier from you.

Pity we don't know who he gets them from and we could save a penny or two. ;)

lol............ah well....at least its quality, dont see me posting "negatives" or "what this/that error"

800 ,350gb hdd that never over heats, runs 2.1.4 white card, and a wee few "FRIENDS", njoying the priviledge

reminds, me..must delete some crap, in prep for the footy

@witchy

I have been into the sat scene for 20 years and had sorts of stbs. And had loads of probs with them too.

The dm800hd has been the best of the lot and the most expensive. This bloody dm 800 is boring as hell, it does everything perfect in the last 6 months I have owned it.

I am not slagging tm they are a superb company and second to none with their customer support. And I wish them all the luck in the world with this new linux box.

You are right I dont own a tm800 but I do know that the software for this box is not very good.

I would love to have one of these boxes just to have a play. I had so much fun playing with the excellent tm600/500 which hardware wise spot on however there is so many annoying niggles with the software.

Hope this explains to all how I feel

Kind Regards
Coley

Intresting...Im still sitting back and sticking on the SD DM600 and DM500's to wee what the the outcome is of the HD wars...am tempted to buy a clone DM800HD but dont want one if I get tuner issues etc...

- TM800HD is an intresting story, be intreting to see how the image support pans out and how stable it is with all promised features enabled...UR Team seem to have left TM500/TM600 users high and dry with no sign of CCAM 2.1.4 server/glitching/freexing issues and !6:9 Widescreen fix...Maybe they are too busy developing the TM800 images now..

- They should modify an E1 Open Pli image and get that working on TM500/600..

I dont own a TM800HD or a DM800HD so I cant test the image....Bugs etc are to be expected on the TM800HD being such a new device.
I was commenting on the TM500/600 devices, that far as I have heard latest UR Team images still have not had any resolution to the CCCAM 2.1.4 server/glitching/freezing white card issues, or a 16:9 widescreen fix...
