Testing TM5302 HD official software upgrade issued 25th Jan 2013 "6 MHz steps Blind scan used for trial",

For this trial I have chosen the 3 most popular commercial satellites for Direct To Home transmissions
+ one of the most popular feed satellites,

28.5 east Eutelsat 28A
Blind Scan 11200 to 11700 misses 3 strong transponders 11260V 11426H 11640V
Blind Scan 12500 to 12750 misses 4 strong transponders 12560H 12560V 12643H 12643V

A full Blind scan of 28.2 / 28.5 east 10700 to 12750 finds only 58 of the 88 active transponders from this
satellite location

A full Blind scan of:

19.2 east Astra 10700 to 12750 finds 82 of the 98 active transponders here

16 east Eutelsat 16A finds 35 of the 50+ active transponders

13 east Hobirds finds 93 of the 98 active transponders

All my other HD receivers find all the active transponders that are listed on flysat & lyngsat,

The USB recordings made play back ok in SD & HD

The DiSEqC USALS motor control works ok now,

4K ultra-high definition test by Eutelsat on 10 east work very well on the TM5302 HD all you need is a Super HDtv
to view the full quality of the transmissions,

Good work on these last 3 features

You Tube is not working with this software version,

To conclude the Blind Scan is not working correctly this may be due to the original software or remnants of
the old software,

Current Blind Scan layout:-
1 MHz scans 300 to 45000 symbol rates
2 MHz ----- 1700 to 45000 -----------
3 MHz ----- 2500 to
4 MHz ----- 3500 to
5 MHz ----- 4800 to
6 MHz ----- 6000
8 MHz ----- 8000
10 MHz ---- 11000
13 MHz ---- 14000
16 MHz ---- 19000
20 MHz ---- 23000
24 MHz ---- 27000 to 45000

With the Originally software it was not possible to Blind Scan 10950 to 11200 + 11450 to 11700 + 12500 to 12750 without an error message
Each symbol rate had a preset part of the Ku band that had no resemblance to the active parts of the Ku band,

The current Blind Scan on the TM5302HD is much better but still unreliable & the layout is over elaborate where a simple Blind Scan layout below would suffice,

1 MHz 300 to 45000 (or preferred 300 to 3000)
3 MHz 2500 to 45000 (or preferred 2500 to 12500)
8 MHz 8000 to 45000
This would cover all Blind Scan needs,

With the current software the Phant0m has very little chance of rectifying some of these problems

as the fault would seem to be in the original Hardware that was poorly thought out by persons

with very little knowledge of the functions well established in other TM satellite receivers

such as the TM1000 Super+,TM6900HD Super+

These tests have taken me over 2 weeks I hope this provides some useful feedback & a possible rebuild of the software of this receiver

Hi again Merliin,

Thanks for your very detailed test results mate...

I still believe that too much emphasis is being placed on the advanced operations within the Original Software and subsequently the basic functions (what a satellite receiver should be doing perfectly by default) is being ignored/overlooked and thereby resulting in unacceptable levels of error in the basic functions of the satellite receiver...

I really can't see the point in having all the nice extras working properly in the Original Software if this is going to be at the expense of the basic functions failing...

@Technomate
Please get your priorities right and fix these basic functions in the Original Software

PS
The Blind Search scanner in the TM 5402 HD software also has lots of similar problems... but nowhere near what Merliin has reported with the TM 5302 HD

Zorch

There is no mention of the ongoing PVR problems in merlin's report either - he states that the USB recordings made play back ok in SD & HD, but no mention of how the recording were actually made - e.g. via EPG set up or manual set up??
Just wondering if those problems have been addressed in the software reported upon above please?:Biggrin2:

Recordings made to USB stick via manually pressing the buttons,

I see no point at this stage to seek out more problems that may exist until the current issues are solved.

I do see where you are coming from merlin, but my logic was that ALL the ongoing problems we are all experiencing are EQUALLY as important for Phantom etc to be made aware of - all in the hope that EVENTUALLY all probs will be resolved in ONE set of 'correct' patches - that MUST surely be his major objective mate?
@manic01 - I NEVER give up!!! lol!!:Biggrin2:

Never say never given the correct software this receiver will work eventually

Come on Phant0m you can do it :champion:

ps the cheque is in the post

Well it looks like this is a far as the software upgrades go with this latest HD Non Linux offering from Technomate ok for FreeSat & motorised satellite using USALS unable to get DiSEqC 1.2 working,

Picture quality is excellent just a shame that they never got around to sorting out the blind scan as I was hoping to replace the old TM6900HD Super so had to invest in a new can of isopropyl alcohol to get the RCU working better lol

Oh well just when I was hoping for one receiver to do it all I will have to continue with the current 4 receiver set up  One day..

I was wondering if somebody could help me. I am new to this but I bought a tm5502 box for the 7 day epg but i cannot press right to see any further than now and next basically. Is this due to the patch or is it supposed to be like that? any help would be much appreciated!

have you downloaded the epg in the menu?, also the epg is lost everytime you switch the box off and on again. regards mdt

thanks for the reply mdt. How do you download epg in the menu? When I go into the epg some of the programs load up after waiting some time but i am still unable to move right through the programs. I am now wondering whether I should get a different box. thank you

You need to go to 11.777Khz V in epg mode and leave it on this transponder for a minute or so. It will show "No Audio/Video" but it will populate the epg. Most channels are downloaded after about 30 seconds. However, for some reason I can't get BBC 1 HD and BBC2 HD to work in this way, anyone else know why?
