The glitchy recording of 27.5W with the TM's is well documented, my M2 behaves quite well with my Toshiba ALU 320Gb USB powered HDD, however the M3 is virtually useless, so I thought I would try an SSD.

I have a 500Gb Samsung 840EVO portable SSD. I tried it on my laptop no problem, however, the M2 just doesn't see it, nothing appears after plugging it in, the USB menu just states that no device is connected, unplug it and re-plug the Toshiba in and it appears straight away, try the SSD again, nothing.

Is there an issue with TM's not recognising SSD drives? It is USB powered.

Anyone using an SSD without issue?

Comments please...

I use SSD in all my boxes, used in technomate nano oe no issues at all.
Remember to use in sat box you need to format SSD to fat 32 first as if it came from laptop it will be ntfs formatted

I have formatted it to fat 32.

I have a 120GB SSD in my TM7102 and, after allowing the 7102 to format it, all has been fine. Only issue is fast-forwarding time recordings in HD- any more than 4X & it gets a bit stroppy. Manual recordings fine. All in all the SSD is better than the mechanical one but not startlingly. I suspect the FF issue is more down to the limitations o the box than the SSD.

Okay, just tried it in an M3, recognised immediately, however, it doesn't improve the M3's terrible recording, recorded BBC1 HD whilst watching ITV HD, when playing back the recording it immediately stops at the point where I changed channel, it can record the channel you are watching but that's it, which is pretty much useless. I had hoped that the higher R/W speeds may of cured this but they haven't so it must be a SW glitch.

Still don't know why the M2 doesn't see it though.

M3 is a joke full stop. BUT if it sees the SSD presumably you were able to format it. Try a different patch on the M2, you never know..... I would try it myself, but my SSD isn't a portable one.

The problem is the machine does not 'see' it, so can't format it, after I plug it into the USB nothing happens, I am going to try it in some different machines today and let you know.

I have had this a few times on various boxes..
to resolve it you install SSD then reflash box with clean image

I have tried a seagate 1.5tb on M3
Watch bbc 1 hd and recored itv hd perfect no glitching on either.
Watch bbc 1 hd and record itv hd and ch4 hd, only bbc 1 hd was ok and others never recorded correctly.
So I can watch and record one other channel on same tp ok but not record 2.

TBH, the M2 is working really quite well, lipsync apart, I don't really want to mess with it, also the 'experiment' was to find a cure for the M3 & F3/5 recording issues, which clearly hasn't worked, (I am assuming it will not cure the F3/5 either, I don't have one to test, but it is basically an M3).

I have only borrowed the SSD so I will simply return it, would be nice if a patch came out which cured the recording issues and one for the M2's lipsync, which is just irritating for a few seconds (usually).

On 27.5W? Which patch are using on the M3?

Is this on 27.5W or Astra 2? I only ask because I have exactly the same issues as @dantis on 27.5, even with today's patch.

I have uploaded 121p to the M3, then reformatted the SSD in the TM's menu.

Recording is better but by no means as good as the M2, I managed to record BBC1 HD whilst watching ITV HD, when I played back the recording it was a little 'hit or miss', sometimes it froze, sometimes it glitched and sometimes it played okay. FF/RW were better with less freezing, even on my M2 this function can be problematic.

125 is latest
1- to Support TCP share {Local one card few receiver sharing by Lan spliter}
2-soft cam keys /biss keys added
3-27 west recording /play back
4-iptv exit to satellite first channel no video
5-slow download from server
6-Recording files edit
7-Add extra files for recording >> now it is 300
8-adding extra TPs
9-CC…m improvements.
10-Ha..d 1/2

Okay so 125p came out yesterday, so flashed the M3 with it, I haven't tested it fully yet but early indications are quite positive!

The recording seems much better, I will need to fully investigate but it appears to have cured the horrible recording issue with 27.5, fingers crossed! I will also try it with a standard HDD and report back.
