I recently bought a TM 5402 and have now updated the software to version 1.27 from the Technomate software site.
I am new to this technology so have many more questions than answers and would appreciate learinig how to use the unit from the experts on this forum.

Some questions:
1) Having installed the new software do i need to do anything further rescan etc?
2) What has changed with the new software and how will it affect my box?
3) I have read about patching the receiver but am unsure what this does and how to go about it. Where and how shoudl I learn about the benefits/process involved?
4) I have also picked up on reference to softcams and keys. Where is tehbest place to discover what they do and how best t use them?

Sorry if this is a long list of perhaps stupid questions but I guess I need to start somehwere.
Thanks for your patience

1. you should always backup yr existing channellist (USB Menu - transfert file - upload channel list) before upgrading / patching, rescanning of channels unless the changed frequency or dissapeared should not be performed.
2. the new TM original firmware adress mostly decoding / recording / youtube, weather update plugins / ...
3. Patched firmware is the same like the TM firmware but with extra, decoding of pay channels, CCcam client, Newcam client, together with Keys for the corresponding channels / packages
4. You need the keys to open the channnels /package ; keys can be downloaded here from the forum. Don't bother BISS constant CW keys as they are very short lived and can only be inputted while on a channel and press a code (cannot be uploaded into the keyfile)

No it is not a long list of Questions but we all had to read, test , try, give feedback, retry, YESSS ! ...
I would suggest you try and when you run into trouble, read or try to find solutions on the site. If it doesn't work ASK and forummembers will be very happy to help our point out what yr doing wrong. it is best way 4 Y believe me.

Patching/Updating TM 5402 HD CI+ Super+

Hi Technonovice,

I wrote the following guide a while ago for another forum member with a different model Technomate receiver... however I have just worked my way through the guide and amended it for the TM 5402 HD CI+ Super+

Everyone who uses the Technomate (non-linux) section of the forum will have their own personal method/procedure for updating/patching their receivers... and everyone's method/procedure will be slightly different... so baring that in mind... the following guide is based solely upon my own personal method/procedure... I'm not saying that this is the best way or the only way to carry out the updating/patching procedure... it's simply the procedure I have always used...

NB
I have tried to make this 'Guide' as detailed as I possibly can and as basic as I possibly can as it may also help other members of the forum...

First of all... it is advisable to delete/transfer all files from your USB Flash Drive before you start the whole patching/updating process... thus eliminating any confusion as to which files you need to 'Download' to your receiver or which file you have 'Uploaded' to your USB Flash Drive from your receiver... the uploaded file will be used later in the patching/updating process...

Next you need to download the following files to your PC...

Latest Technomate Original Software ~ TM 5402 HD CI+ Super+
TM5402HDCI_ALL_127_20121227.stb (6.00 MB)

Latest Phantompatch ~ TM 5402 HD CI+ Super+
Phantompatch-TM5402HDCI_ALL_127p_27-12-2012.stb (6.5MB)

Latest TMSoftcam Key file
SoftcamMotor 39° East Update.zip (7.2 KB)

https://www.digitalworldz.co.uk/index.php?threads/253293/#333

Insert the 'empty' USB Flash Drive into the PC
Unzip the latest Technomate Original Software file
Load/transfer the latest Technomate Original Software from the PC onto the USB Flash Drive
Unzip the latest Phantompatch file
Load/transfer the latest Phantompatch from the PC onto the USB Flash Drive
Unzip the latest TMSoftcam Key file
Load/transfer the latest TMSoftcam Key file from the PC onto the USB Flash Drive

Remove the USB Flash Drive from the PC

NB
Remember to use the 'Safely Remove Hardware' utility on the taskbar before removing the USB Flash Drive from the PC (this avoids any possible corruption of files stored on the USB Flash Drive)

Insert the USB Flash Drive into the TM 5402 HD CI+ Super+
Wait for the USB Flash Drive to initialize on the receiver
Press 'Menu' > 'USB' > 'Data Transfer' > then press the 'Red' button to 'Upload Channel Data' (aka) cndf file to your USB Flash Drive and then check to confirm that the cndf file has successfully uploaded to the USB flash drive and that it appears on the 'File List'... then press 'Exit' once

NB
It is recommended that you keep a copy of your latest cndf file on your PC at all times and to update it regularly... so should anything untoward happen to your receiver or you unintentionally/accidentally 'Factory Reset' the receiver... you will always have a Backup cndf file that you can reload...

Go to 'System Settings' > 'Factory Reset' > PIN: 0-0-0-0 > 'Factory Reset' > Select 'Yes'
Wait until the factory reset has finished then select your preferred language on the following screen

Go to 'USB' > 'Data Transfer' > Enter PIN 0-0-0-0 > select the latest 'Technomate Original Software' file from the 'File List'
Wait until the latest Technomate Original Software has finished loading and wait until the receiver re-boots
Wait for the USB Flash Drive to initialize on the receiver

Go to 'System Settings' > 'Factory Reset' > PIN: 0-0-0-0 > 'Factory Reset' > Select 'Yes'
Wait until the factory reset has finished then select your preferred language on the following screen

Go to 'USB' > 'Data Transfer' > Enter PIN 0-0-0-0 > you will notice that the Latest TMSoftcam Keyfile has now disappeared from the 'File List'... this is totally normal and is due to the fact that the receiver does not have a patch loaded onto it at the moment...

Select the latest 'Phantompatch' from the 'File List' (the patch file always has a (p) after the version number)
Wait until the Latest Phantompatch has finished loading and wait until the receiver re-boots

Go to 'System Settings' > 'Factory Reset' > PIN: 0-0-0-0 > 'Factory Reset' > Select 'Yes'
Wait until the factory reset has finished then select your preferred language on the following screen

Go to 'USB' > 'Data Transfer' > Enter PIN 0-0-0-0 > and select the cndf file from the 'File List'
Select 'Normal DB' then wait until the the cndf file has finished loading

Select the cndf file again from the 'File List'
Select 'Default DB' then wait until the the .cndf file has finished loading

Select the Latest TMSoftcam Keyfile from the 'File List'
Wait until the the Latest TMSoftcam Keyfile has finished loading then press 'Exit'

Go to 'Installation' > 'Options' > set all options to 'OFF' > press 'Exit' > Settings were changed - Do you want to save? > select 'Yes' (if applicable) otherwise press 'Exit'

Go to 'System Settings' > 'Time Settings' and reset time/date > press 'Exit' > Settings were changed - Do you want to save? > select 'Yes'

Go to 'A/V Output Settings' and configure to personal preferences > press 'Exit' > Settings were changed - Do you want to save? > select 'Yes'

Go to 'OSD Settings' and configure to personal preferences > press 'Exit' > Settings were changed - Do you want to save? > select 'Yes'

Go to 'Front Display Settings' and configure to personal preferences > press 'Exit' > Settings were changed - Do you want to save? > select 'Yes'

Go to 'Password Setting' > Enter PIN 0-0-0-0 > and configure to personal preferences > press 'Exit' > Settings were changed - Do you want to save? > select 'Yes'

Go to 'IP Settings' and set 'DHCP Usage' to 'OFF' > press 'Exit' > Settings were changed - Do you want to save? > select 'Yes'

Press 'Exit' twice and press 'SAT' on remote control and select the satellite position you were parked on before you started the patching/updating procedure...

Press the Volume + button to set the default volume to your own personal preference
Press the 'Colour' button on the remote to set Mode/Brightness/Contrast/Colour to your own personal preference

NB
The Phantompatch can be switched ON/OFF in the Menu by selecting 'System Information' and then pressing 2-0-0-4 on the remote control

The CAS Menu can be accessed (when you are on any encrypted TV/Radio channel) by pressing 'Mute' > 'Exit' on the remote control

The ECM PID's can be viewed (when you are on any encrypted TV/Radio channel) by pressing 'Mute' > 'Exit' > 'Blue' on the remote control

That is a fantastic summary and really gives me confidence as a novice to press ahead. Thank you!

One question:
You quote the latest softcam key as 39 deg east. Does this only apply to this satellite or are there other downloads for different satellites?

Once gain thanks for such a great response !!!:Biggrin2::Biggrin2::Biggrin2:!!

Hi again Technonovice,

One question:

All the latest keys are in that file... the file has been named SoftcamMotor 39° East Update.zip by digi247 who posted it... if you click on the link and look at the post it tells you what is in the keyfile...

Hi again Technonovice,

Thanks
I think that I am begining to get my head around it!!

Have you got any more questions mate...?

You are aware that the new forum rules require you to post a few more times before you are allowed to download any files from the forum... i.e. the latest TM Softcam Key file

Zorch

@Zorch:-
Hi mate, just an aside - can YOU explain why the latest softcan using Ctechmaker 1.5 doesnt open Bulsat on 39E as per 9/2/13 1759 hrs, yet other file peoples' 'modified' softcams do?:Biggrin2:

Hi Zorch
Yes I have a lot of questions as I am working my way through this Box.
I loaded the update software from the Technomate site, connected the internet and used teh you tube facility but!!
when I opened the you tube search it came up with a number of files but it would not let me open them.
I think that this is probably a software/you tube issue but wondered if it might be connected to my router or firewall
Is there a known issue with you tube?
Thanks for all your help

Slowly working my way to be able to download the softcam key.

You are quite correct mate... TechnomateMaker 1.5 is generating an incorrect key 03/06 ...I'm not sure how this has happened... perhaps it's just a mistake by the person who updates the program's database...

I'm sorry but I can't help you with this problem mate as I have never connected my receiver to the internet... but I'm sure that some of the other guys on here will be able to help you with this...

Thanks Zorch
This answers my next question which was:
Do I need to connect to the internet for the softcam to work. I assume that the answer is no!
I think i also know the answer to this question but will ask to ensure that my understanding is right!
Apart from You tube which sems to be a lower quality than if accessed thru a PC is there any benefit in connection to the internet?
Kind regards

Hi Zorch
I have followed the instructions and have succesfully( I think) installed the:

Original Software
The Phantompatch
The softcam key file

Quite an achievement for a novice!! Thanks to your comprehensive instructions

On moving to your PS on updating the satellite positions and transponders I have a couple of questions

Maybe this is too advanced for me and I should leave well alone but would appreciate any advice going!!

This statement raises some questions!

You just need to activate the satellites you wish to use and input your own DiSEqC/USALS position settings in the menu... then download all the channels using 'Auto-Navigation'

How do I do this and where do I get this information from?

This statement also raises some questions:

PLEASE BE AWARE

There are no DiSEqC/USALS settings stored in this file
There are no TV/Radio channels stored in this file

It seems to be a warning do I need to get these settings and channel data and if so from where and how do I install?
Is this the same as the previous statement?

I do have aTechnomate motorised dish which I think has pre installed satellite positions.

I hope that these do not appear to be idiotic questions

Thanks again for all your help

Hi again Technonovice,

Are you currently using DiSEqC or USALS motorised settings with your TM 5402 HD...?

Did you install the settings yourself...?

The cndf file I posted is easy to use if you first know how to setup the DiSEqC or USALS motorised settings

Once you have loaded my cndf file onto your receiver... all you then have to do is follow the guide in the TM 5402 HD 'User Manual' regarding how to use the 'Auto-Navigation' search...

***Edit***
The instructions appear on pages 15/16/17 of the 'User Manual'

Just to add, there is no need to update any original firmware prior to loading the patched firmware. The latest patch will already incorporate any mods done to the original firmware. Also you may wish to flash your 5402 with the add_on file as this I expect will help you to achieve exactly what your are looking for when you bought your 5402. All files and all information you need are already posted and answered within this forum. Happy reading and enjoy!

Hi headwest,

You need to be able to walk before you can run mate...

Technonovice needs to know the basics before he attempts to delve into the more advanced operations on the TM 5402 HD

Patching/Updating TM 5402 HD CI+ Super+

In your excellent guide you perform a factory reset after installing the phantompatch, and before loading the new .cndf and .key files. If I am just updating cndf and keys is this necessary?
