Polarization and no signal transponders

Hi all,

Background:
After two very bad experiences with cowboy installers in London, I very recently found one who carried out the necessary work to upgrade my system to a motorised one in a professional manner, and without trying to rip me off in the process. Third time lucky!!!
As you can imagine I've been eager to find out about all the channels and satellites I could receive, and I've used the fantastic Lyngsat site for guidance about transponders, etc.

I'm new to this so, please forgive me if the following questions sound very basic to many of you.

Questions:
1) I've noticed that some satellites show transponders with 'R' and 'L' polarization. However, when I do an 'advanced search' on my Technomate 5402, the only options available are 'V' (Vertical) and 'H' (Horizontal). Can someone point me to a good source to find out more about this? Are the settings on my LNB or the receiver that determine which options I can see? Would I be able to pick up channels on 'R' or 'L' polarization? If so how?

2) Whilst going through the various satellites (to see which ones I can get), and using Lyngsat as a source to add new transponders or remove obsolete ones, I discovered that there were a few listed transponders, which I could not get a signal for (e.g. 36.0°E Eutelsat 36A/36B - Transponder: 11.655 - Symbol rate: 1.800. Lyngsat shows that there should be this 'Al Watheka TV Promo'). I did not take note of the others (and I'm not going through them again :)) It's not a big concern as I don't speak/understand Arabic, but I'm just curious to know if it's just an error on the site or something else.

Thank you in advance.

I've done it all for you mate... just download the cndf file and follow the instructions...

You cannot receive L/R Circular transponders/signals with a Ku band LNB

These transponders are for C-Band reception only.

Thank you Zorch for your very prompt reply.

With regards to the list, I actually went through all satellites from 45e to 19.2e and I was going to continue to 30w. As you can imagine it took me many hours... and you had already done all the hard work!!
I don't regret it (well, a little) because it gave me the opportunity to see in detail, which channels have dual/multi audio, languages, etc. Basically, I am trying to convince myself that it was not all completely wasted. :)

As per the L/R transponders, from your reply I assume that theoretically if I had an additional dish with a different LNB that supports L/R Circular signals I could get those? Do you know a good/reliable source where I could learn more on how L/R transponders work? I can google it, but please let me know if you are aware of a site you'd recommend.

Thank you once again.

Hi again sweetrihard,

Eutelsat 36A/36B - Transponder: 11.655 - Symbol rate: 1.800. Lyngsat shows that there should be this 'Al Watheka TV Promo').

I'm glad you mentioned this transponder as I completely missed that one... it must be the only one I did miss... I have just added the transponder details to my own TM 5402 HD and downloaded the channel/promo... you're not missing much though... it's just a video loop advertising Al Iraqia 4 Al Wathaiqia as being on Nilesat 102 at 7.0°W

You will have to add this transponder manually to my cndf file... ;)
