I've had this receiver for about a week now after previously owning a Spiderbox for nearly a year and so far very pleased it.
Techno is much more stable, not had to reboot once yet, whereas Spiderbox kept disconnecting regularly.
HD and SD picture quality is excellent on both receivers, but channel change on Techno is much, much faster.
Channel editing is also much more user friendly, although OSD display on Techno looks very dated( I used to have a TM 1000D)and it doesn't seemed to have changed much at all.
Some people have complained about noisy fan on Techno but I can't hear it during viewing and you also have option to turn it off from menu should it bother you.
Receiver runs very cool, whereas Spiderbox ran hot even on an open cabinet.
My only real gripe of Technomate is positioning of some of the buttons on remote control. FAV and EPG buttons are tiny and I think should have been isolated from other buttons as I use them all the time.I pity anone with stubby fingers!!!

I can only agree with you , GREAT little box even getting better and BETTER  and like you I'd say the remote is a bit of a let down.

yup, The fav and epg buttons are made for Little people .....
I ask my kids to push them ... lol

I have a question for TM, let me use my DM500HD remote on my TM5402HD and I would be very happy :)
This of course is never gonna happen

I would certainly agree, great box any probs with it were my own making, and being one with chubby fingers due to arthritis the remote is certainly a problem. Had mine since December

Thanks all for the above review, but can anyone say what the blind scan/ fast scan is like for feeds etc, tuner sensitivity and frequency accuracy for weak/fringe channel reception, and finally PVR recording/Hdd compatibility, and EPG on other other satellites ie. 7W and 26E as this is what really interests me.
Thanks all and best wishes

i would agree with that could u use the remote from a 1500 or a 5400 would it work

I picked up a 500gb Seagate drive from Argos for £40 have no problems recording either by using the recording timer or a straight record by just pressing the record button, only thing is not always a channel on the same transponder that you want to watch at the same time as recording, as it only records and watch channels on the same transponder.

I got over that because I already had a Humax HD box that I use when the timer is set so for me no big deal...

As for me anyway the epg on other sats is hit and miss. It does not always load but you do get some info on programmes on channels, I always use the blind scan on new sats as I find that picks out the most and any that is miss I just add them in Manually.

Hope some of this info is of use to you

Just had a look at the EPG on 39 east showing no info on any channel but when I select a channel the info boxes fill up sometimes 4 or 5 channels at a time and more.

But if I goto another sat and come back it has to be reloaded again, all the info is lost.

Ive had my TM5402HD for some time now got rid of my crappy spiderbox
the TM5402HD ccam is solid not had any problems with this box at all its been fab.

does this box connect to a nas storage harddrive for media playback and recording if not is it going to be added?
yep martin thinking of getting one to replace my spiderbox if this box had been on market last year about world cup time would have probably got this and not the spiderbox
so lines work pretty solid on this box i take it is client only and you can not homeshare without.
looks a good deal with the epg and youtube feature getting pretty close to a linux box for those who dont like fidling and messing about

if the NAS connectivity is not fully implemented, its nearly there. go into the usb menu, then i think its file manager, and on the right hand side, if you press the yellow button, a window pops open to enter an IP address. Put the IP of your NAS drive in, and stream from the drive direct to the receiver

2T External Hard-Drive for recording, rewind and pause.

Recently purchased TM5402HD and wondering how can I format external hardrive 2Tetrabite I recently purchased. Can't seems to get round it. I would appreciate if anyone can help.

It needs to be formatted as fat32, do a quick google search for free fat32 formating software. Do it via pc as TM would take a while on a disc that size.

Regards

fantastic box, blind/fast scan freq. is very accurate, not great for feed hunting tho, at the mo it doesnt do 4:2:2 so cant decrypt, although i think this can be rectified in a s/w upgrade (Phantom) ??. wd passport 1tb formatted to fat 32, no recording issues at all, reads, writes perfect. not sure about epg on 7w or 26e though.iam still on 112p patch as it has no issues with with pvr, all channals clear fast and glitch free on all sats. id recommend this box to anybody.iv tested later patches and found everyone has its flaws. buy it, you wont regret it

The 5402HD is a great box but have to disagree about the Blind Scan with the 45,000 symbol rate hardware fault when a low symbol rate confuses the receiver & up pops a symbol rate of 45,000 = no signal

It amazes me that this fault in the hardware has never been corrected & exists in all the Hubtech clones DrHD D15 & F16,Blade 7000s HD, ect ect at least the Blind Scan on the TM5302HD when it works "lol" does not exhibit this Hardware Fault just pure laziness of the Far East Manufacturers to even attempt to sort out this error, the TM1500CISuper+ was a brilliant blind scan receiver something not surpassed with the HD versions.

Yes the TM5402HD is good but it could be much better even the M2 version of the TM5402HD has this Blind Scan fault :FRIGHT:

@Dazman,

Thanks again for coming to rescue. It works perfect and recording is smooth on TM5402HD. I used quick format and completed within seconds.

One more thing though........ Can anyone advise how to get up to 7 days advance program on EPG. Only up to 2 days shows on some channels and sometimes its only next program on the same day that shows.

There is a post on 7days epg for 28e somewhere...

choose a channel on 11778V27499, once on there you'll see "no audio/video"...that's normal.
on remote press >epg>info then wait few minutes...exit, and your 7days epg should be loaded (you need hdd,usb plugged to 5402)

That's how I get epg, if not fully correct, anyone is welcome to modify.
I thought with 1.28p it was "said" faster epg loading, well I did not spot much difference...
