Hi,

Its been ages since I have touched a receiver, so not up to speed with market and features.
A friend has asked me for some help to choose a Technomate receiver. He currentley using a technomate with a motorised dish, but his unit has gone faulty. the picture goes funny (colours mixing and shade on pictures) and sometimes the unit hangs. He has tried to reload the firmware downloaded from Technomate website and didn't help.
He is planing to spend about £80 or thereabouts.
I have looked on Ebay and found the following items.
TM-5200 D M2 USB Super+ £49.99
TM-5300 D+ M2 USB Super+ £63.95
TM-5400 M2 CI USB Super+ £79.00

Looking on Technomate website and ebay pages found out the "TM-5400 M2 CI USB Super+" has an embedded Conax in it. Is it worth paying the extra to have this system? Does this open any channels without paying!!! :D

If you know any other units for similar price that you think is better, please recommend.

Thanks for your time and help

dont waste your money on a sd box, go for the tm5302hd or tm5402hd. if your friends budget is around 80 pounds i think @digidude may still have a tm5302hd for sale for that price. its brand new basically as its been opened, tried and then put back in the box. regards mdt

I second getting a HD box like a 5302 etc. I have sd and hd and the sd is relegated to the kitchen as the hd picture is so much better

hello
donegalvolvo

correct me if i'm wrong but was/is the 5302 not one of the tm box's to stay away from?

Hi Slyboxhd - You are right. Tbh though I would generally advise against all the technomate boxes! Some people swear by them for whatever reasons though. Just as he was said he was preferably looking for TM. I far prefer the Dreambox boxes (even clones). Probably a hangover from my old TM500 where the images from UR team and gemini etc were so infrequently updated and buggy. Moving to a Dreambox or Vu Duo I found life much better - esp with open pli images. And even better again I recommend the genuine DM boxes and not the clones - however the dm clones can often work perfectly at a fraction of the price. But I suppose it will always come down to budget and personal preference!

Thank you very much guys, for your help and inputs
And sorry for late reply, well to be honest he was looking for something to connect and set it up once and just watch a bit of TV when he gets home. He is not sort of person who regularly update or mess with the box, anything like this he will be on the phone to me.
As for your recommendations of HD boxes, most of the channels he watches are not broadcasted in HD, so no point in having a HD receiver. He was very happy with his "TM-5200 Super plus USB" and going to get a same one.

Thanks for your help again
