Hi Guys,

I remember reading something about this, but not sure whether it was this forum or another, but I felt it's worth sharing with you.

I know many people have discussed options of making their TM500 / TM600 or any other receiver WiFi and discussed many options and devices you can buy from fleabay etc.

I've managed to connect my TM600 to my WiFi system using an old dusty router which which I flashed with "DD-WRT" and allowed my old router to work as a Client Bridge.

The best thing about this is the whole modification of the router, which once you figure is not too difficult at all and takes about 10minutes to do and after all we are on a forum which is all about mods and learning new things to save money rather than spend more.. ;-)

If like me I'm sure you will have an old router lying around gathering dust and if you want it to act as a router then check the DD-WRT modification out and be assured it works perfect with no issues what so ever.

Not sure if I can post links on here, if I can then I will post a link to check whether your old router is compatible.

Regards

was hopping to do this a while ago as i had around 6 old routers lying about, sadly none of them were supported.

ended up getting a 30ft ethernet cable for £1.50 heh

how's the network streaming over wifi ?

no problems what so ever mate, I've hardly noticed any difference at all.

I would not be streaming much over it any way mainly used as an additional box in bedroom but did not want ethernet cables etc running around the house.

I've also connected a Divx DVD player to same network and have streamed on that which works perfect too.

Been doing this for the last year for myself and clients, Linksys routers from china then flash with wrt, works a treat.

Malcom-X,

Excellent post. Having only a single router, never tried it. However in the blurb that came with my netgear it alows it to be used as a "range extender", which from my LAN-install days is what we would install in large/high-density offices.

Beats the hell out of Cat5 all over the house and gives you a local hub at LAN-STB for less than the price of "homeplug" and a Hub

or you could connect using 2 homeplugs.
30 quid for a pair on ebay

also, can you not just use a regular router as a sort of bridge?
but i'm definately interested in DD-WRT, which is the cheapest router from their compatibility list?

Thats right, the home plugs work a charm!!

But as I mentioned in my post if you have an old router gathering dust then this is a cheaper alternative, plus you get the buzz of doing a mod yourself and that's what this whole community on this forum is about is it not??

Use the above link mate to see a list of compatible routers some cost as little as £20 bnib. Still a cheaper alternative to the plugs I guess.

yup,
i'm currently looking on fleabay to see if i can pick a second hand one up at a couple of quid

a cool mod would be if you could power the router with the usb port on the satellite box :D

Digidude's your man for that one...

I'm sure there would be some form of a way to do it, but if you could get a small enough router that fits into the receiver that would be even better...

thanks pal,
honestly speaking though i wouldn't risk putting a router inside my reciver.
both router and stb run hot enough as it is, i'd be combining their heat and at the same time taking away any airspace that was previously easing that pressure.
my stb would sit on a shelf so i would probably just mount the router underneath the shelf where it cant be seen

Seeing how this thread is on Wifi Options,

I've been in the archive (cupboard under the stairs) and found a Phillips ADSL router "SNA6500" with wireless USB dongle. "SNU5600/00" there are linux drivers for it on the webb. Would I be able to get this working via the tm600 USB or are the TM's USB's only for storage?
