Rangers close the gap on Celtic while there were also wins for Kilmarnock and Hibernian on Wednesday.

Hibernian 2 - 0 St Mirren
Motherwell 0 - 1 Kilmarnock
Rangers 1 - 0 Hearts

Rangers are back within five points of arch-rivals Celtic following a 1-0 win over high-flying Hearts. Kyle Lafferty's early goal settled the Ibrox affair.

Hibernian have leapfrogged St Mirren with a priceless 2-0 win against The Buddies at Easter Road. Second half goals from Derek Riordan and David Wotherspoon secured the much-needed three points for Colin Calderwood's troops.

Elsewhere, David Silva's late effort lifted Kilmarnock to a 1-0 success over Motherwell. The visitors lost Garry Hay to a late red card, but they held on. The points mean Killie have cemented fourth spot in the standings while Motherwell remain in eighth.

Earlier Inverness' scheduled clash with Dundee United at Caledonian Stadium was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.
