Rangers go into Saturday's Scottish Cup final against Falkirk aiming to seal a memorable double and retain their Cup crown.

The Gers wrapped up the SPL title on the final day of the season after beating Dundee United 3-0 at Tannadice to record their first league crown for four years.

On paper they should have no trouble against a Falkirk side that needed a last day 1-0 win over Inverness Caledonian Thistle to survive the drop from the top division.

Walter Smith's men finished 48 points better off than their cup final opponents and have beaten the Bairns on all four occasions this season scoring eight goals and conceding just one.

But Falkirk manager John Hughes is adamant his side will be buoyed by their survival success as they aim to win the Scottish Cup for the first time since 1957 while it is their first final appearance for 12 years.

The Bairns can also take comfort from the fact that First Division Queen of the South nearly upset Rangers in last year's final when they came from two goals down only for Gers striker Kris Boyd to claim his second of the game and win the Cup for the Old Firm club.

Team news
Saturday's showdown could provide a fitting farewell for disgraced Rangers midfielder Barry Ferguson.

The 31-year-old, tipped to join West Brom in the summer, has recovered from a calf injury which threatened to rule him out for the remainder of the season but two substitute appearances in the last two games mean that he could feature.

Ferguson's inclusion depends on whether Pedro Mendes can recover from a thigh injury in time with assistant manager Ally McCoist already declaring that they would give the Portuguese ace as much time as possible to prove his fitness.

Fellow midfielder Maurice Edu also faces a race against time to be fit after hurting his knee against Dundee United last Sunday.

Meanwhile Falkirk have defender Steven Pressley available again after suspension while veteran winger Neil McCann could also see himself recalled to the starting XI.

Unfortunately midfielder Arnau Riera will sit out of the final through suspension after he received his third booking of the competition in the semi-final win over Dunfermline.
