Celtic demand answers after Barry Robson sent home from Scotland squad
Mar 28 2008 Exclusive by Keith Jackson

FURIOUS Celtic bosses will demand an official explanation from the SFA after it emerged Barry Robson was sent home from Scotland's HQ on Monday against his will.

Record Sport has learned of this mysterious twist to the Old Firm Five saga which left manager George Burley with a patchwork squad for his first game in charge against Croatia.

Robson was told to pack his bags and leave Cameron House Hotel on Monday after four Rangers players - Barry Ferguson, Allan McGregor, Christian Dailly and Lee McCulloch - had withdrawn through injury.

It's understood Robson was bemused and distraught by his ejection and pleaded for the chance to stay and prove his fitness for the Hampden friendly.

The player had reported to the Loch Lomond base with a sore knee picked up during Celtic's SPL win over Gretna 24 hours earlier.

But Robson was adamant he would be fit to play against the Croats and his club boss Gordon Strachan was happy for him to do so.

In fact, Strachan was unaware his player was carrying the knock. He first realised there was a problem when he read on Teletext of Robson's withdrawal.

Now chief executive Peter Lawwell is set to demand answers from the SFA after Robson flew through a gruelling one-hour-45-minute training session at Celtic's HQ in Lennox town yesterday morning.

Robson is not even a doubt for tomorrow's crunch derby at Ibrox - which means all five of the players who pulled out of Burley's squad have been given the all-clear to play for their clubs in the crucial top-of-the-table show down.
