TEVEZ OFF TO MADRID. OR MILAN. OR SEVILLA
A crack team of Sherlock Holmes, Leonardo Da Vinci, Inspector Morse, Marcus Tullius Cicero and Steven Hawking would struggle to understand the complexities of the Carlos Tevez situation, so the Gossip Column isn't even going to try and pretend we know who owns him and whether it's illegal or not for him to playing for West Ham.

Suffice it to say Kia Joorabchian certainly still thinks he owns him, and is planning on flogging him to Real Madrid for £30m. And West Ham won't see a penny of it.

'The Hammers tore up their agreement with Tevez's owner Kia Joorabchian so the South American star could play in their last three games of the season,' says The Sun, revealing why the Argentinian can bob off without a penny being paid to everyone's least favourite Premiership club.

'Real Madrid are leading the chase, with AC Milan and Seville on alert,' continues the rag.

'A £30m price tag makes it virtually impossible that the Hammers could end up signing him,' they continue, seemingly unaware that a club willing to throw millions and millions of pounds at Lucas Neill and Matthew Upson would probably break the world transfer record if they could actually sign a good player.

AND BENT IN AT WEST HAM. OR SPURS. OR VILLA. OR LIVERPOOL
Talking of West Ham, they're also tracking Benfica's Nuno Gomes, want Craig Bellamy and Yakubu, according to The Times, and will flog Yossi Benayoun, Marlon Harewood and Anton Ferdinand.

They're also throwing some money at Darren Bent. £12m of it, if you believe the Daily Star. But there's competition.

Spurs have also put Bent in first place on their shopping list, according to the Daily Express, while Aston Villa and Liverpool are interested as well - but all three clubs remain hopeful they can land the striker for a fee of around £10m.

The Gossip Column's prediction? He'll go for £15m.

Oh, and if Spurs can't get Bent, they'll apparently move for Eidur Gudjohnsen.

We would have thought that, with three strikers who've bagged more than 60 goals between them and not one left winger in the squad, Martin Jol's priorities might be slightly different.

WE SUPPOSE THIS DESERVES A LINE OR TWO
The good news: ManYoo have apparently finally agreed an £18m fee for Owen Hargreaves.

The bad news: The Gossip Column saw that in the Daily Star, which also carries the story today that Robbie Williams is in touch with Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin's ghosts.

THE INS AND OUTS AT TOON
'Obafemi Martins could be on his way out of Newcastle,' says The Sun, 'with Valencia and Juventus already in talks over a £13m move'.

The striker hilariously declared himself unfit and went AWOL in advance of Toon's last game of the season. While he is apparently happy at Newcastle, it is thought a move to a big club would be too tempting to resist.

Meanwhile, the Daily Mirror claims Sol Campbell 'has moved a step closer to joining Newcastle after admitting he is considering his future after Portsmouth's UEFA Cup blow'.

'The ex-England star told fans after Sunday's 0-0 draw at home to old club Arsenal he was unsure if he would be staying.'

THE OUTS AND NOT OUTS AT ARSENAL
Arsene Wenger says that William Gallas will stay at Arsenal despite interest from Real Madrid.

However, says the Daily Mirror, two men who won't be appearing at the Emirates Stadium next season are Julio Baptista and Jose Antonio Reyes.

Baptista will return to Real, while Reyes - unwanted at either the Emirates or the Bernabeu - will be offered a lifeline by Real's best buddies Atletico Madrid.

The Daily Star says Watford want to sign new Arsenal keeper Lukasz Fabianski on loan to replace Ben Foster.

WHO WILL REPLACE PEARCE?
According to one tabloid, if Thaksin Shinawatra takes over at Man Citeh, he wants Mark Hughes as manager, but Louis van Gaal is also in the running.

According to another, Gerard Houllier is set to take the job, with Claudio Ranieri and Luis Felipe Scolari also in the frame.

According to yet another, City have put Dutch trio Ronald Koeman, Louis van Gaal and Co Adriaanse on their shortlist.

According to a rather more reputable broadsheet getting involved in the tittle-tattle, the favourite is Jurgen Klinsmann.

According to the Gossip Column, they'll get Neil Warnock.

and some more

THE LITTLEST HOBO TAKES HIS REVENGE
Booing your manager is a dangerous game to play. After all, there's no-one in a better position to harm your team. And it looks like the Birmingham City fans' constant complaints about Steve Bruce have finally had an effect.

We're not talking about yesterday's news that Bruce is trying to persuade Jlloyd Samuel to cross the second city. No, Blues fans, it's worse than that.

'STEVE BRUCE,' says the Daily Mirror, 'is ready to make a shock bid to sign Titus Bramble - as Newcastle prepare to boot him out.

'Birmingham boss Bruce wants to beat off competition from Portsmouth and Fulham and land Bramble on a free transfer.'

It just goes to show, if you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all.

WHERE IS CARLITOS GOING TODAY?
No-one can agree on where he's going, but everyone agrees he's going. And following yesterday's news that he'd agreed a deal to join Real Madrid comes today's Daily Express claim that Inter Milan have opened talks over a £25m bid for West Ham striker Carlos Tevez.

Gossip Column fans (hi mum) have probably already noted that the fee for Tevez was widely quoted yesterday as £30m.

If things continue at this rate, the F365 five-a-side team will be making an audacious bid to snap him up on a freebie on...er...Monday.

POMPEY MOVE FOR DEFOE
He's scored bucketloads of goals this season and his manager has praised him repeatedly. But there's still no doubt that, as Spurs move for Darren Bent, Jermain Defoe has been deemed somewhat surplus to requirements at White Hart Lane.

As such, Pompey (who Defoe knocked back last summer) will move for him - but only if they miss out on Mark Viduka.

'Portsmouth boss Harry Redknapp has held talks with the Middlesbrough striker about a £60,000-a-week move to Fratton Park,' says the Daily Mirror, causing the Gossip Column to spray coffee all over our desk as we exclaimed "Sixty THOUSAND pounds a WEEK? For that fat lump?"

And even that ridiculous offer might not be enough. "Viduka will have plenty of offers and I doubt we'd be able to persuade him to join," said Redknapp, confirming that, as Gary Jules suspected, it's a mad world.

AND THE REST
Sulley Muntari is close to completing a £6m move to Pompey, according to his agent...Dennis Rommedahl is on his way out of Charlton, and will take up a new career in greyhound racing. As a greyhound. Or maybe sign for Brondby...Bad news, Boro fans. Fabio Rochemback wans to stay put...Hossam Ghaly wants a move away from White Hart Lane, because he's sick of not getting to play in central midfield...Teddy Sheringham could be about to form half of the slowest strike partnership of all time when he joins Juan Pablo Angel at New York Red Bulls...Scott Parker is an £8m target for West Ham...Wigan want Marlon Harewood from West Ham...Paddy Kenny wants out of Bramall Lane.

more transfer rumours

ARSENAL TO DUMP FREDDIE AND OTHERS
Arsenal are ready to offload Freddie Ljungberg on a free transfer to any club willing to pay his £70k-a-week wages, says The Independent.

The Daily Mail goes further, saying that the Swede could lead an exodus out of Arsenal, followed by: Jose Reyes, Mathieu Flamini, Manuel Almunia, Philippe Senderos, Jeremie Aliadiere, Alexandre Song, Kerrea Gilbert and on-loan Brazilian Julio Baptista.

Ljungberg will be the highest-profile departure after Arsene Wenger decided that the winger no longer features prominently in his plans. West Ham made a bid for him in January but the Indy reckons that 'having avoided relegation, that may change although they are believed to not be so interested in the player as they were. The Swede has also been linked with a move to Italy'.

MAN PATS SELF ON BACK
The Daily Mail says that Pompey are close to signing Ghana midfielder Sulley Muntari from Udinese. Or at least the Daily Mail says that is what his agent, Stefano Antonelli, has said to them.

"Udinese have already finished negotiating with Portsmouth, and with my help he [Muntari] will go to them," he is quoted as saying.

The paper also says that 'Harry Redknapp is keen to block Sol Campbell's move to Newcastle' but that's bleedin' obvious.

WILL BLADES OVERLOOK McCALL?
Neil Warnock has backed Stuart McCall to be his successor at Sheffield United but The Guardian reckons that McCall 'is likely to be overlooked'.

'McCall, Warnock's assistant, has indicated he would like to move into management but Kevin McCabe, United's plc chairman, all but ruled out an internal appointment last night when he claimed that "experience "will be the key factor,' reports the newspaper.

But how is McCabe defining 'experience'? "We need someone who has done it before," he commented before adding: "Stuart fits into that category as he has been at clubs as a player, coach and assistant manager."

The Times throws some names into the mix - those of Bryan Robson (oh dear), Micky Adams, Steve Cotterill and Chris Coleman.

CITEH WAIT ON VAN GAAL
The Daily Mirror continues to maintain that Louis van Gaal is Man Citeh's 'top boss target' but says the club will have to look elsewhere if his AZ Alkmaar side qualify for the Champions League in a play-off against Ajax.

'The games are not due to be decided until the end of the month. And City insiders have revealed there will be no appointment for at least two weeks, a further clue Van Gaal is first choice,' it reports.
