just looking for a bit of advice would a 5000sd still be a good investment for a newbie I dont want to spend loads on a hd box if I find this hobby isnt for me.

Thanks in advance for any input

I only have experiance of the 7000HD its a good bit of kit, the HD is superb, if you was to decide the hobby isn't for you a HD box would be easier to sell on, (imo)

Are you starting from scratch, ie dish, motor etc

To my mind the 5000 SD is an excellent receiver BUT you will miss out on a lot of HD channels. I would say either a 7000HD or an X403p (these are available for a very low price), whichever you get I can advise on setting up if you have a problem.
In the budget range the X403p (also called the iBOX HDX4) is a really good choice and better than it's replacement the S10 as it has a SCART socket as well as the HDMI output.

totally agree with jimmy the x403p hd is a great budget hd box when i got mine it cost under £70 very easy to use and set up can run mgcamnd newcamnd cccamnd and a usb drive in either fat32 or ntfs to use to record and if every thing goes tits up tomorrow it has not cost a furtune and you still have a fta hd sat box

I recently bought 2 5000's to put in the kids room and I am regreting every penny I spent on them so much so 1 is still in the box. There is nowhere to enter a boxkey on them, there is no support or patches anymore.
I would look elsewhere for other boxes mate, the 403p seems a good deal

I'll swap you my HDX4 for one of your 5000's cant say fairer than that. I must warn that the company in China sent the remote with a badly fitting battery cover which I have filed down to fit.

got a spider 5000 but newcamd says port from and port to - but not like the 7000 which is just port - i have tried all combinations of the port no. and none connect - line is valid as i have tried it in 7000 and service + is all ok on 5000 anyone know what goes is either - obviously port no. must go in 1 but cant get it to work!

Mine isn't fairing too well either put a line on it thats been working flawlessly on other boxes and it jumps about all over the place doesn't stay connected on service+ either. I was going to do a channel list with all the updates on whats open but half of them aren't opening (at least not reliably) so I can't check what I'm keeping or deleting??? So I think this one will be going on the bay ;)

Quite happy with my spiderbox, but at the moment the gift channels are not clearing,i am only bothered about hotbird 13.the channels were working a few weeks back,i have tried rescanning and repatching and the connection is o.k.
Any ideas i am a novice and would appreciate help THANKS. Its a 5k by the way.

nothing much open on service+/ethernet on 13E just a couple of fox channels I believe the rest have gone(at least for now)

Thanks for the response,it appears i have been chasing moonbeams.

yeah sorry but if your on a motor there is still plenty on 16E, and a bit more iffy some on 19.2E and 1W and maybe a few others here and there. If you have a fixed dish and you want to move it 16E should be easy to find from your position at 13E (just a bit to the left when looking from behind the dish and a tad down with possibly a touch more skew, check Satellite Finder / Dish Pointing Calculator with Google Maps | DishPointer.com

I got some news from different place Ethernet will be full recover ....with plenty of channels to watch in hotbird
Bis, Sct and Cyfra , Dlly buster ,Red light. Swiss, TvSat ( including HD channels.)

any idea how to get the newcamd to work with this as it has 2 ports - from and to but the line i have is valid as tried in other box but dont work in 5000 - sure its a port thing but tried always - cccam works and service plus - nuts!!

Dolfiemax you have to use patch 2.15 for newcamd to work..The newest patches will not clear anything..Put 2.15 on and all will work fine..

The latest version i think that have two Ports, if i remember well..
Just add Fist Port "the Starting"... and i think will be Red Button and the End port will be found AU and you will see even card you are connect..
Just exit and i think will be OK..

If you have no Success go in previous s/w and they have simple just one Port.

Good lack.
