The latest spiderbox software (available only by NET SW download from the network menu) allows the entry of URLs for EPG download by direct entry from the USB menu.

Process:

Save all settings..
Factory reset..
Menu-Network-Net SW Download
Allow the latest SW to download and do not restart until the sw is downloaded (50%) and loaded into the receiver.

Unzip the files attached onto a USB stick.
Go to the USB menu.

Select the *.con file in the USB menu.
Select the URL from the popup list and select it.
It will be saved in the URL field when you go to the Download EPG Data menu in the network menu.

Then proceed to download the EPG of your choice.

One package/sat is available at one time

I have attached some rytec_xmltv.con files for you here.
Thanks to Boxer26

Thanks to kchris for this, just few points when installing this software.
First you MUST backup your channels list as the factory reset WILL erase them.
After downloading the patch do a second factory reset then press menu then enter 1111 to enable the emulator and network.
Reinstall your channels.
Press menu, go to Accessory and select Key Edit, press Ok, set UCAS=ON and UCAS Autoroll=ON press exit. Install the latest softkey.
Select Network and set to ON. Press exit.
You will need to re-enter your USALS coordinates.
Then just the usual house keeping, OSD setup, Control panel, and Time setting NOTE summer time will be set to OFF set to on.
Thats about it.

lol, the spiderbox is downloading data from one of my servers when using this

i said ages ago that it wouldnt be long before it copied the other receivers with epgs ;)

could the spiderbox team not recode the software now that they are this close, to extract the actual epg data from the satellite stream itself, and save it to usb or internal flash, a full 7 day uk epg, with descriptions, is about 12Mb in size, and downloads from the data stream a lot faster than it can be downloaded and unpacked from the net ;)

So if I install this latest software, in simple terms the spidey will have a decent epg?

Yes but note this is for the HD receivers only not the SD and it is also "work in progress" so look on it as a provisional release.

also when you switch off the box or put in standby you loose the epg. but great news anyway about time something was done about the sad spider epg. i asked a while ago about this and didgidood gave a good answer like he has again it puzzels me why the team cant take note off his ideas?

Hi Guys,

You can prevent the EPG from being lost in standby mode if you go to OSD Setup scroll down to Energy saving and turning the Power Saving Mode to the off
position. However if the receiver is switched off or there is a power cut you will have to reload it again.

Mike.

at the moment, the spiderbox is downloading and unpacking an xml file into its flash memory, and when you call the epg, its reading this file from its temp flash. it works, and is a LOT better than just now/next, and if you have external storage connected, it could easily be improved. they could tell it to download to the external storage, and to compare the stored file to one hosted on a server, and if the server file is newer, to download the newer one, this would solve the standby issue.

they could also change it to download directly from the data stream from the satellite signal itself, that way it could run on its own overnight (it takes about 40 seconds to download the entire database via satellite), and this way is always more accurate, as if a programme changes in the line up, the rytec listing wont reflect this

a LONG time ago, before i was banned, i told their 'team' how to implement EPG on receivers, before the spiderbox even existed, and was accused of causing trouble as no sly talk was allowed. so when the reins were handed over, i once again explained my idea to another team, who jumped on it, and now nearly 6 months later, everyone else is copying lol

its good to see things like this appearing though, as a good epg makes any receiver better

theres only 2 m8, uk sky and uk BBCi, no matter what address you choose to download from, the epg data file is the same

most of them i get download failed, 1 works when i press the red button which resets the url and then it downloads. Shoots to 70% then crawls to 100%.

ive looked at the .con files, and checked my server status, use your spiderbox to navigate to the one that says tm800hd.co.uk (got to laugh as i type that lmfao) and it should download

The RED button fixes that as the default download address to save having to reload from your USB stick.

Sadly no I have tried many times to download from that server and I get "download failed" every time.

may be worth reflashing the receiver or something, as ive just checked by directly linking to the UK file, which was updated at 3:24 this morning, and it downloads fine

Will do and get back with the result.

Just checked the address in the Spiderbox download and it's slightly different I will alter it and check it out.

exactly the same m8, so if its failing to download for some reason, or failing to unpack, then its down to the receiver, as the server is active and supplying data as requested
