Welcome to the new Smart Homes area!

Given this is bleeding edge tech, we'll expand the section and add thread prefixes as needed.

For now post anything and everything about IoT, smart and connected homes here: From home automation and smart thermostats, to wifi enabled washing machines and fridges that remind you that you need more milk.

It is an interesting subject certainly. Doesn't seem to be taking off as quickly as the developers would have had us believe, which is probably a good thing. There have been chinks discovered in the armour discovered already, security concerns notably but presumably those are being ironed out as things develop.
It's the things dreams are made of- let's hope they don't become a nightmare.

I'm sure last week's IoT botnet driven DDoS attacks weren't good publicity.

Hopefully, rather than putting people off, it'll just make them aware that buying IoT devices that have a generic/default user name and password that the end user can't change isn't a good idea.

Thank you for setting it up @little_pob,

I really enjoy reading these threads and have a keen interest.

One thing that I am noticing more frequently is the IFTTT which I believe stands for IF THIS THEN THAT.
IFTTT- RECIPE WEBSITE

Allot of code at its basic is that (if, and, else, etc). It is good to see they are breaking it down to user level. And IFTTT I think can control anything that allows web commands (like a dreambox for example).
