Howdy,

So I was looking for a solution to retrofit a new alarm panel that notified me if the alarm at home was triggered.
Turns out people want to sell you a new system rather than just a panel.. understandable I guess.

But then I stumbled across this awesome project! It turns a Pi with a camera, PIR sensor and (specific) wifi-dongle into an automatic alarm (of sorts).

It works based on you (or a number of devices) being at home or not. For example mine is set up so that if me or the wife are at home, the alarm is deactivated. If none of us are in then the alarm activates automatically.

When I say alarm I mean alert. It sends a message and images to Telegram via a bot. I am looking into wiring it upto the alarm however.

I have it all working and it is great. Check out the guys Github page for more info.

You can build all of this (and much more) yourself with open source home automation software like Domoticz :).

I know this is to do with the Pi units but I got a unit and a 1x PIR along with 2 fobs for about £33 at a well known bidding site. Throw a sim card in and it will phone and text when set off.
I was also able set up my old PIR's with the system.
