Alexa Amazon Echo/Dot Chat

Seems a cheek by Amazon charging Prime members an additional fee.

Agreed, but I suppose they feel they are giving you 2 Million songs with prime

Not saying I agree with that though lol

I'll try the free trial and go from there

Let us know how you get on :)

After reading more and realising the £3.99 deal is for 1 Echo device only and no use if it via app etc I dont think its good value for money
And the £7.99 deal isn't good enough for already prime members imo

I was looking at getting my Dad a Dot for Christmas, but from reading this thread not sure I will bother. As I very much doubt he would subscribe to Prime. I was hoping if you bought a Dot you would get some free services.

I believe the TuneIn app is free and can be used on the Echo. As you say Prime music and Spotify are paid services.

For the Dot, you would need to connect it to speakers to get the best sound quality.

I gave in an got an echo today, been playing with it for a hour or so an I love it. one quick question, what brand of sockets/switches are people using? at the min lightwave rf wall sockets an switches seem the way to go instead of a plugin.

I went for the Hive plugs and bulbs as I already had the Hive boiler. Not tried any of the other ones yet.

Well I though about it for quite a while and decided I don't need one, so I bought the Amazon Echo Dot anyway. :D

I just got the dot because I am a bit of an audiophile. So I put it with a Lepy mini amplifier and some mini monitors, and to be honest it sounds much better than the full sized echo and cost me much less.

Has anyone tried the Energenie smart plugs? They are supoosed to work well with the echo/dot and are really cheap at less than £30 for a set of 3, everything else seems well overpriced.

I have an Energenie 4 way trailing smart socket but it's connected by USB not wifi so is controlled by software on the pc, which works really well.

I have Energenie plugs however I have the ones that come with the Raspberry Pi hat.
Unfortunately the Pi hat does not work with the native MiHome App and therefore does not play with Alexa :(

I am now looking into using them with IFTTT and a way to get them to work with alexa. Alternatively I might just buy the Hub which would eliminate the need for it.

From my testing with the Pi, they work fine.

I've been trying to get the Skybox working with my Echo. How did yu get that working and what did you use. Graham

I use the Hive ones and the Lightwave ones. The LightWave are the only ones I've found that actually replace the complete face plate and look good. They do need another little box as most of these seems to,
