Bricked Skybox F5 - My Solution With USB Connection

So got my self a new sky box f5 and did a multi sat search(big mistake),so i didnt have a computer with a serial port,so i ordered one of the cheap usb converters off face book.when that came i then realised that i never checked to see if it was male or female.

It was male so now i had a male to male connection,so up to my local shop and got a female to female connection to add on to it, usb to male,male to female cable and that connected to the box.i had read about the usb to serial not working properly but i still tried.

So i keep trying by using the upgrade tool and the upgrade tool from the skyboxs website,all this with no luck two hours later and i was still couldnt get the box to flash.i had all but given up and i came accross another site and a person claiming that he was able to do it via this version of the upgrade tool,so i had nothing to lose so i downloaded it and on my first go it worked.i couldnt believe it.

I thought i was one of the lucky few that got it to work via usb. here is where the upgrade tool is.im not able to upload attachments. my os that i was using was Windows 7 pro x64
Now my next problem is that i updated the firmware to the latest and when i do a channel scan im not getting that many channels compared to when box was updated.

Compare the Transponder (TP) list in your box against the broadcasters TP list. Missing channel points to missing TP's.

Hi I did a multi sat search aswellm my box has a single red light went plugged in, I have tried running the rs232 programme however cant pass the synchronisation of stb screen. could you please advise or let me know if these were similar difficulties you have faced in your project? ^^

With RS232 Cable you can maybe recover but their is not guarantee, if you connect with RS232 from PC to BOX, then 100% you can, if not, nothing you can do, this F5 i have is not mine it is some one i sold the box, as i am re seller, people put things that not supposed to and they brick the boxes, i have recovered lot of them, but with this one no luck because RS232 is not working, i will try tomorrow on old PC, as i am using USB to RS232 Cable, my lap top does not have RS232 Port, See this guide below and you have the files you need is well, good luck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

1. Connect up your PC to the Skybox f3 or f5 using a null modem serial cable.
2. Switch the box OFF
3. Run EromUpgrade.exe then check the com port setting is correct
4. Select the latest firmware .abs file.
5. Select "next" then switch ON the box and follow the instructions to load and flash burn the firmware.
6. If the process does not start, try various time combinations of switching the box ON after selecting "next"
7. Don't switch the power off or disconnect while the download & flash is taking

And you are done!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have been trying but done seem to be able to get the timing right. How do i know the flash is working? Will the Skybox start the 1-100 count up?
At the moment all i get is a blank skybox and the software stays on "please reset target".

Not there to see what happening, JUST FORGET TO SAY SOMETHING YOU HAVE TO TICK THE BOX INCLUDE BOOTLOADER IS WELL, from what you say, you can not connect to box, because if it says reset targets all the time, mean the communication is not working, check the port com, you need the correct one, try many times, to turn box on-of, and maybe the communication will be successful, but i have the same problem as you, i will try with old pc as i told you earlier, if not working with that is well, it mean the box can not be recovered, need to go back to factory, so it is not 100% it will work!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You are on good road, go back, and try again, many times till all the process goes 100%, the box i was trying to recover did not work out, RS232 Did not Connect with Old PC is well, so the box is for Rubbish Bin now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

is there actually any way of checking that my skybox has actually connected to the computer via rs232?

I have/had the e0xact same problem i was using the rs232 usb cable but did not work so i bought null modem cable ans worked straight away on my old pc now my problem is the firmware loads but every time the box reboots its still only going to 93 then the dreaded e001 can anybody help me as i have tried skybox.cc and cloned firmware but no luck please help.

my skybox f5 has gone dead, I can see a faint figure 8...anyone got any ideas
