I keep seeing bits of information about unicable lnbs but no real start to finish threads what a unicable does and if anyone can use it.

In my particular case I currently have a 60cm fixed dish with quattro lnb going to a triax multiswitch.

Then room have twin wf100 cable going to them with. So 2 sat and 1 freeview.

Is there a unicable lnb that works with a multiswitch?

If so then could the same 2 sat feeds in living room for example record multiple channels as long as the box has correct tuner? FBC?

At the moment I am only able to record 2 sats channels. Would like to be able to have ability to record more without anymore cabling.

If anyone can shed some more light on how unicable works I would be grateful [emoji1]

Single cable distribution - Wikipedia

Hope this helps... I know less about this than you do.... Good luck in your search will watch thread with interest but would guess that without new equipment compatible with unicable you won't be able to get the most out of this..

I'm curious more than anything... Will I ever have the need to record 16 channels? No but I like to be that little extra and have beyond the norm.

My living room actually has 5 WF100 behind TV. Did it when I refurbished my house. Everything comes nicely from the loft.

Overkill is yes. But it currently runs normal sky + HD, vu+ duo 2 sats, 1 cable feed. Plus aerial to TV for freeview HD.

Bit over kill as you say but the new 4K Vu+ receivers Solo4K, Uno4K, Ultimo4K all make use of the Unicable LNB which as stated gives you access to around 16 tuners 8 tuners per input, Think of it as the new Sky Q you could allocate tuners to your Mobile devices such as iPad/Tablet and mobile phone as well as other receivers if you so wish.

So Keep 2 for the main box and the others for other devices

I say overkill but 2 cables from a multiswitch with a triax quad module gives you 2 sats, aerial and fm so before skyq was even out I decide to run 4 cables as I was using WF100-Twin plus a used another spare for vermin cable. So effectively if I wanted currently I could with the right box and tuners have 4 dvb-s2 feeds, 2 dvb-c using hybrid tuner and run 2 dvb-t2

The beauty of it all is is nicely fitted into 2 double back boxes behind my TV unit so along with 4 cat6 cables.

I think unicable would allow me to totally centralise my tuners and possibly get rid of the need to have other boxes in example kitchen, mobile and tablet is good example too...

Probably just me but being me but it was literally no extra effort at the time for me to add the extra cables so is it so over the top.

Iv done a few house refurbs where iv done cabling for networks and sats and more and more people want that extra flexibility without having cables on the outside of their houses.

So this kinda discussions really help me understand other options and use cases.

That's the whole point of my hobby I guess :)

People are commonly associating FBC tuners with Unicable LNBs. They are two separate and independent systems. A DM500 running Commando 16 works with a unicable LNB. Sky + HD receivers have an option for unicable too.

Unicable:
You can use splitters. Make sure each and every receiver uses a separate frequency (SCR).
Some LNBs take time to wake up. Use satellite equipment plugin to add delay to avoid the tune failed message.

Most Unicable 1 LNBs are 4 channels. Technically, they are capable of 8 channels.
Unicable2/Jess LNBs are technically cable of 64 channels. But usually come in 24/32 channel varieties. Some unicable 2/Jess LNBs are backward compatible.

There are unicable switches that will work with quattro/quad LNBs.

FBC tuner:
You can share signal within the tuner. You also have virtual/leaf/child tuners.

FBC tuner with standard/universal LNB:
You can share signal on same quadrant of satellite signal.

FBC tuner with Unicable LNB:
You associate a frequency from LNB (SCR) to each of the virtual/leaf/child tuners. According to Vu developers, they must be in a serial chain, not parallel chain.

FBC with Terrestrial/DVB-C input:
As we know, all the signal comes down the same wire. You are therefore not restricted to one frequency.
