Is Zgemma Cable / Sat box H.2H worth it or best to just get single purpose box

I am considering getting a new box for my Sat but also have a cable connection available. So was thinking about getting the Zgemma H2h box.

Saw online that these boxes are available with multiple tuners, but wasn't sure if that mean they can be used on Cable and Sat at the same time?

Or best to stick to S2 type only box and forget multi use?

Also do both of these support IPTV?

Thanks

I've just got a twin tuner H2H. Quite enjoying playing with it. Yes you can have both feed connected at the same time. :)

Nice thanks for confirming - was thinking about other boxes, but this one seemed to be a good fit.

Have you tried to run Kodi / IPTV on there? Does that work too? Just wondering if the boxes are powerfully enough to do all.

Go for the edision mini combo which is fully supported by openvix with a 2 year warranty and is only £20 more,The H2H has had tuner issues on the cable side

I've personally found the H2H to be pretty reliable on the cable side. The cable tuner in this box definitely behaves better than my zgemma H2. if you're after a box with full official vix support then go for the edison mini combo as suggested above. The openvix images used on zgemma boxes have been modified and although i've found them to be pretty stable, others may be put off as you can't update the software on the zgemma stb itself should you decide to at a later date.

What difference do you notice @marconipete mate?
I have the sat 2s and never really noticed much to the newer H.2s.

The reason I ask is I was going to buy a H2 in few days as I've always been thinking of getting one.
It's just that I can get the H2 £15 cheaper than H.2H

i know zgemma say it's faster but my experience with zgemma newer models is "slightly" faster.

How does the H.2H behave better before I part with my loot.

The main difference is the processor, the original Star series use the older single core 750MHz CPU, the later range H.2S, H.2H etc. have the now fairly common 7362 750MHz dual threaded CPU (it's not actually dual core as some claim but dual threaded which does perform to a very similar level) - It's defiantly much faster than the original single core range, you will see the difference on most levels, boot up time, scrolling through menus etc. but even in things that you don't maybe really see on screen but makes it possible for the newer processor to run where the old one will struggle, thinking various plugins and developments in firmwares here. The 7362 has largely been taken by most as the industry standard now (if there is such a thing!) for the more what are still considered entry level receivers, but don't let that term put you off!

The other big advantage in the 7362 range from Zgemma is the SD card reader, I tend to test on the EVO OEM brand versions myself (Nova Twin, Nova Combo) because I have ready access to these which have a new case design, power switch and SD card slot entry, extra warranty but otherwise are effectively the same thing as the H.2S and H.2H - the SD card slot is a real bonus if setup correctly and with the right size card you can use this for recordings, timeshift and EPG data, it's a little card that slots in the side so nothing external, like having the benefits of internal HDD but without having to actually have one! Well worth 'trading up' for this alone in my experience but of course each to their own in terms of what features you need/want/use etc. :)

The difference i notice compared to my H2 is that it boots up quicker, it's quicker to get through menus etc and the tuner seems to be more stable than that in the H2. It doesn't seem to suffer with the occasional picture breakup that the H2 has. (I've got both boxes on the same line)

I already have external HDD.
But the SD card sounds handy. Does the SD card have to be formatted to "EXT4"?
And what's the max size of SD card?

It doesn't need to be ext3/4 but like anything else like this it's generally always best, they need to be ext3/4 for timeshift to work anyway and Linux generally prefers this format. Now there are some struggle with SD cards and formatting that work well with the receivers, cheap SD cards especially but some not so cheap ones to!

To get around this I've made a plugin for formatting, it's a real simple script that runs a command to format the device (you could just issue the same command via telnet) but I've made it a plugin just so it's real easy to press and button and let the script do the rest.

I've got the .ipk on my machine at home and still in the office at the moment so I'll post it up this evening for anyone who wants to give it a blast, I've tested it with cheap to expensive SD cards (Micro SD actually) cards, from 256MB up to 256GB and all worked well for me... After it's done you can then change the mount point to what you like, ideally /media/hdd this way it'll generally be setup ready for recording and timeshift and more or less away you go!

the zgemma LC single Tv tuner box is a nice box but very slow the h2h is duel core much faster you can just disable the tuner you don't want to use.

Here's the plugin attached as promised. :)

I've got zgemma hs2 and cannot fault them. You can also stream to other roomsin the house with openwebif by inputting ip address of the box into web browser or 3rd party software.

It's one of the best things I have brought and saved me hundreds
