There will be some big changes in January ?. I normally take these rumours with a pinch of salt but this one has come from someone I know who knows his stuff and is rarely wrong.

Fleabay will be awash with boxes

He just warned me against buying anything without details, if I could elaborate more on it I would but that's as much as I know.
It might, it might not happen I cant say and be 100% either way no one can but when he says something like that (which is rare) I take note.

For some time I have been expecting Sky to announce the closure of the SD versions of its sports and movie channels. They would no doubt justify the move by saying that there are few SD subscribers left, but it would also release transponder space for new 4k channels, which need a lot of bandwidth.

As thread is titled "rumour" I would take it with a pinch of salt.
Could it have anything to do with Thompson HD boxes being discontinued on 31-12-16 only the greedy sly ones will know.
I hope it continues for ever. But we all know good things come to an end. I have been reassured there is atleast one year left.
We wait on there next move. I won't miss it anyway.

With the usual rumours that regular float around I normally (and there's been plenty of them over the years), "take them with a pinch of salt" you will just have to take my word for it when I say he knows his stuff and he never cries wolf.
I hold judgement but,

anyone want an F5S a Zgemma s and 3 db 800's ? , bag of nuts will do :)

Hope you have a great week with it :proud:
No way!!!
is vermin going down too @chookey?

Im still waiting on a response from a member that new people who knew things saying "C/S was ready to go live on HD 28.2"
That was 3 months ago.

(this thread is vertually saying all black screens within a month)

on sly and now vermin???

Virgin encryption is way behind the sky system and will be around for a long while to come,Sky still have over 4 million people using Older type SD boxes as older people are very reluctant to change,Do you really think sky are going to just switch them off as they are full paying customers,Anyone worried about card sharing going tits up then just pick up a good quality box that will run full iptv,Xtrend et 8500,VU solo/duo,magbox ect,You will need fibre to run iptv

Sky shut down the analogue channels when it still had subscribers. If I remember correctly, the sports and movie channels were the first to go.

Sly italia always had problems on C/S from day one. It was going down all the time. Just like can*l sat.
All info below was taken from another site and is 2 years old.

update:
Also has anyone got the pop up message telling them to update there box yet?
Thats what happened before the HD went.

I do think it coming to an end. It's went longer than I thought. But there's legs in it yet.

We wait but but who cares? It rubbish tv anyway.

So users are aware the HD issue is not a quick fix. In the past the nds data was supplied from the satellite (mpeg stream) directly to the card. Oscam/cccam etc.. identified the card, took in the nds request and supplied the response so the channel opened on the local (and remote) system. In the latest iteration the nds data is still supplied by the satellite dish (mpeg stream) but now the box further encrypts the data coming from that mpeg stream. This encrypted data is then internally decrypted and sent to the card which opens the channel. To achieve the same result in a Linux situation is simply impossible unless you know the algorithm for this internal encryption/decryption. Untill a snowden type disgruntled employee releases the algorithm HD will remain black.

So there is good news. Many users ask when the standard def option is likely to die. The reality is that SD will not die for some years. The internal encryption/decryption used by sky cannot be managed by the traditional sky SD box. Yet sky must service these customers. The SD box chipset is not capable of handling the new internal encryption/decryption. As such sky cannot turn off SD channels until it has replaced every SD box with a HD box. Considering this is somewhere between 5 and 7 million users the cost to sky for this replacement policy will extend past 2 billion (euro and probably sterling). So it ain't going to happen anytime soon.

As you seem to know so much, you might have answered my question about where you got the figure of 4 million SD boxes. Whatever the figure, they won't all be subscribing to the sports and movie channels, so wouldn't all care if the SD versions are shut down.

If Sky is going to push 4k by launching more channels, then it has to find a lot of transponder space on an already crowded satellite. Closing down some SD channels would be an easy way to achieve that.

Whatever happens, I don't really care, as I get Sky Sports through Virgin, so you can keep your humble pie for yourself.
