SkyQ on it's way

Still no confirmation this will require 4feeds to box or its still 2 feeds and depending on broadband connection to stream 4k?

Will be interesting development. I haven't jumped on the 4k bandwagon yet still rocking a 1080p plasma but defo in the market for new tv in 2016 so lets see how this progress and what the price point will be.

Assuming HD will be free, 4k extra £10.50 a month and around ~ £199-£249 for new box which will have to have at least 2TB hard drive and higher number of devices on skygo makes sense. Perhaps 10 devices. So you can access recordings on mobile, laptop, pc, tablet etc.

By the time you’ve decided it will have passed you by

and then you will have to start considering 8k

where did he go?

Now that SkyQ has been officially announced Sky Q | Welcome to Fluid Viewingâ„¢ does anyone have further information on the type of tuners and number of cables needed? Is a new lnb required and will this affect those who are using multiswitches.

Hi,

From what I have read it requires two feeds and a new Lnb. I'm assuming the new Lnb
Will contain multiswitches and/or SCR/Unicable capability.

The 'Q' box would have to feature FBC tuners (Full band capture) and as above use a Unicable Twin/quad LNB with both inputs being able to provide at least the capability of 4 separate tuners so thats 8 tuners taken care of the rest will be split for Virtual use and at least 3 are being held back for future use.

its advertised as being able to record up to 4 different channels while playing back another, so its deffo an LNB change and the 'Q' minis (Multiroom) will make use of the other Virtual tuners and i guess that you will also have to take there own fibre broadband to make full use of it completely.

The Vu Solo 4K already has FBC tuners and with the correct LNB can do exactly the same

The big issue I have is I'm using a mutliswitch with quatro LNB so will this be redundant so to speak? @digidude

Breakdown seems to be as follows for the 12 Tuners:

5 Tuners used for 4 x Recording and 1 x Viewing

2 Tuners used for Multiroom 'Q' mini receivers

2 Tuners used for Streaming devices Tablet/smartphone

3 Tuners reserved for Future use

But will everyone then need dish and lnb upgrade, plus extra cabling. I haven't heard of any broadcasters announcing 4k channels. I can only assume Sky with have one sports channel and one movie channel with rest of content being streamed... The mini boxes sounds good but the more I'm thinking about it the more I'm thinking might be better to stick with a pay monthly sub with Netflix and or Amazon.

BBC1 in 4k isn't going to be especially wow and upscaling on the latest tv sets are very good from what iv seen. I will have to see how this develops.

if you go for the Sky 'Q' box all that has been said is a new LNB will be required and it is not backwards compatible with existing Sky receivers which confirms it will be a Unicable/SCR type LNB to match the box, the Mini 'Q' receivers are wireless which seems to suggest that you would need Sky Fibre also to take advantage of the wireless system but who knows.

Looks like any Sky 4K channel will not be available till 2016 and no definite daye has been given so could be early 2016 or middle'ish or even later, my bet is on the new EPL 2016/2017 season for a kick-start of a 4K sports channel.

Certainly looks to be the end of any more cables coming into the wall for multiroom on this new system which will please the masses.

Sky has launched a new service called Sky Q that blends live and on-demand TV as it tries to compete with the likes of Netflix.

The company described the new platform as its most significant product launch since HD and "a new way to watch TV".

The package will comprise a set-top box and a "super premium package" and will be separate from Sky's Now TV on-demand service.

Experts questioned what it would cost as Sky has not revealed pricing for the product.

Sky's Andrew Olson told Rory Cellan-Jones that it was a new "premium" offering.

The LNB supposedly now is a Dual input Wideband 12v which means 1 cable carries all Horizontal transponders and the other all Vertical allowing all 12 tuners inside access to all frequency's avaialble

Ahhh looks like iv wasted loads of money on a multiswitch and its too late to return it :(

Dont Panic they will of course have to bring some type of addon switch that can be used with Multiswitches whether that be for the home or commercial aka Apartments etc...

What happens when someone wants it in a communal system or even quite a few, something will have to be thought of

If each cable carries all the hoz/ver channels then surely those can be split as many times as you need (with suitable amplifiers etc)??

There will be no problem for blocks of flats etc as this is one of the advantages of Unicable installations, at present most blocks of flats have a distributed system that only permits a single feed into each flat, this preventing the use of twin tuner receivers, by changing to Unicable each flat will be able to utilise the single cable but have multiple tuners etc.
If you read up on the Unicable system it will be better described.

I just thought even if it is a new dish and lnb all I would have to do is disconnect the 2 cables from the multiswitch and have them join to the cables from the switch so it probably isn't that much of a big deal. I doubt I will be getting SkyQ anytime in 2016 anyhow as it might be just way too costly considering I download movies, have amazon prime, plex and kodi not to forget a few duos.
