HI all,
I understand that all new s£y subscriptions from 18 Dec 2013 do not require the boxes to be plugged into a phone line if you have multiroom.

Therefore if this is no longer the case how would sky know if the 2nd box was at the same address or not..

I guess they could check IP address but im sure there are work arounds with using static IP etc.. also if you didn't bother to connect the box to the Broadband ...

How do they now identify if all the boxs are at the same address

I always thought that a second box had to be connected to the phone?

A friend of mine pays for a full $ly subscription with multi room.
He gives his multi room card to his sister who lives about 6 miles away and they share the cost between them.
So each receive the full package for half the normal cost :Biggrin2:

Exactly. The 2nd box must be connected to the phone line. If the box fails to phone home, they will charge you two subscriptions.

I'm sure someone uploaded an engineers pdf here stating that second boxes did not need connecting to a phone line. (PS I'm not post clocking to get downloads)

6. Each Multiscreen Subscription must only be viewed at the same Address as your first subscription. At all times while any Multiscreen Subscription is in place:

(a) the Box used to receive the Service under your first subscription and the Box(es) used to receive your Mulitscreen subscription(s) must at all times be connected to any residential broadband service you receive, provided the Box can be connected and we have supplied the equipment necessary to establish the connection;

(b) if your Boxes are connected to your broadband router (or to a fixed and operational telephone line) you must allow us to collect information through the connection, including Box location information;

(d) the Viewing Card must be kept in your Box; and

(e) the Box must be connected to a mains supply.

You must give Sky or Sky In-Home Service Limited reasonable access to inspect the Boxes at your Address to check that any Box used to receive a Multiscreen subscription is located at the same Address as the Box used to receive services under your first Sky digital subscription.

No that is out of date, here is the latest conditions from Sky on their web site:

All you need to know about your Sky Multiscreen set-up. For more information visit Help & Support.
1. One of our engineers will come round to install Sky Multiscreen for you.
2. We'll send your new viewing card for your new Sky box(es) in the post. Please have this ready for when our engineer arrives.
3.Internet-enabled box(es) will have to be connected to a working broadband service where possible – this is to verify that all the boxes are being used at the same address.
4. You'll be able to start watching your Sky TV in another room as soon as your set-up is complete.

I have had a multiscreen box for three years that is not at the same address as the sub, and it has never been connected to a phone/broadband line.

I copied it off their site at time of posting. How things change within a few hours.

I went to a Job yesterday and Sky (new Install) had already been 2 boxes both running with neither Telephone/Broadband connections so work that one out

I have had a second card canceled by sky because it wasn't plugged in a phone line . Many moons ago like but they are bothered about it. Some people must just fall through the cracks.

what happens if you use say a dongle for a laptop and only have a mobile phone? you cant then have a sub? they are going to turn down £100 a month nearly, regards mdt

We had mulitiroom fitted on Tuesday we have no phone line into the house when he had fitted it I said doesnt it need to be connected to the internet and he said NO so I will wait and see what happens

interesting to read the box must be connected to a broadband so they can collect info

I am going to wireshark all traffic from my sky box over couple of days and see what information is sent over .. could be interesting to see if they break any laws on data protection.

It's called MultiScreen now. Got this from $ky's website:-

Other important points about your Multiscreen Subscription
• Each Multiscreen subscription you take out can only be viewed at the same Address as your first Sky digital subscription.
• If you have an active Multiscreen subscription, the Box used to receive your first Sky digital subscription and the Box(es) used to receive your Multiscreen subscription(s) must always be connected to any residential broadband service you receive, provided the Boxes can be connected to broadband and we have supplied you with the equipment necessary to make the connections (e.g. an On Demand connector). You must let us collect information through the connections, including Box location information.
• You must give us reasonable access to inspect the Boxes at your Address to check that any Box used to receive a Multiscreen subscription is located at the same Address as the Box used to receive your first Sky digital subscription.
• If you choose to take the Sky Go Extra service as part of your Multiscreen subscription this is subject to additional terms and conditions that will be supplied to you separately.

They should only need to check the main sub and each multiscreen are using the same IP address

Used my mothers multi box for over a year and we live 19 miles apart nether is plugged in to the phone line as she does not have broadband

How long ago was that?

Need someone who is doing this now and has been for say 6 months+ to know whether $ky do start chasing people.

It still looking like some people have, as mentioned earlier, fallen through the cracks and escaped whereas some haven't.

I can confirm that I have access to a multiroom box that is 30 miles from the subscriber and it is not and has never been connected to the 'net.
It isn't possible to view pay to view stuff on it though.

Not sure of the details involved but the above is 100% accurate.
