hi guys - i bought a sky hd box from local car boot...box works fine, obviously i cant use the hard drive fro recording etc...can i take out the hard drive and will the box still works as normal ?...seems like a 500gb hard drive in there..

yes box will still work if you take it out no problem, nice 500gb 3.5 seagate pipeline for ya inside it too if its the newer model! ;)

ok anyone know how to open these boxes up found a few screws on the side, one under the flap and one under the back...a few plastic tabs, but cant open it..its a Sky DRX890-R like this one below

Sky Plus Sky HD Receiver - Amstrad DRX890

There are 6 screws on the underneath mate
Unscrew them and the lift up the lips on the bottom of the box
The box should slide out of the casing,it is a bit fiddlie if you have never done it before

ah i see....now...will have another go later...cheers guys..

My BSKYB 3000 (Pace) box would not work without a HD fitted. The Pre test check on switch -on would come up with an error and not let me go any further. I got over it by fitting an old grotty HD then the pre test passed OK

You can read it and copy it with the software in the Forum in post 5 (fergalsworld)

took the hard drive...at a cost though, cut my finger on the sharp side metal panel...lol, anyway its a 500 GB seagate...ST3500312CS 9GW132-012 3.5"...it will go in my spare pc...nice

i noticed that the sky box is more noisier now that the hard drive has been removed...im assuming its the fan that is running which i left connected..looks like ill have to open the box up again and disconnect the fan, or does it need to stay connected...?
