hi m8,
i have done it with 2 st's that were the the same, not sure about 2 different stb's though as i did that once and it wiped the hdd.
have a look at this it will help you.
Thomson Sky HD repairs and upgrades
it is for a hd box but you should get the idea,it will be easier on a sly+ because the casing is easier to get off
leave it unplugged for a good hour to discharge any power in the stb and do it on hard standing flooring rather than a carpet to minimise static

mmm, not 100% however you would deffo have to have a subscription to the premium channels you may have recorded

AFAIK, all recording on subscription channels can only be played back on a box with a valid subscription.

Thanks a lot guys ! Was just an idea but i will look into all your replies! Many thanks

yes mate, they can be converted as there just normal seagate pipeline hd2 500gb hard drives, new black sky hd boxes anyway, plug them into a computer, format them and away you go!

this is basically the hard drive inside them, or at least the hard drive that has been inside of 5 or 6 that i have took apart, lol.

outide of a sky+ (HD) receiver, the data on the drive is useless, as its stored encrypted, and only if when you try to access the data, the reply from the viewing card is (youre allowed to view that channel ) + (you have a sky+ sub) + (its not a box office event) then you can watch it, otherwise, the drifve is just another unreadable drive untill its formatted by your PC / receiver

any recordings stored but a new viewing card with paid sub in the official receiver will stil allow the recordings to9 be accesed though
