the engineer came to fit my half price sky but could not get a line of site for the satellite because of the hill and the houses behind us have large trees over shadowing us these trees because they are nearly 200ft above us block the signal so it is very poor. The engineer said we would require a very big pole on our bungalow and a specialist installer as the wind would affect any thing that high our garden is only 12ft wide and 5ft long so it is out of the question to have a pole that big with the stabilizing cables so I'm stuck with virgin

I know how you feel. My father-in-law is in the same boat. He can't even get freeview because of the fecking trees!!

get a couple of good copper nails covered in creasote (wrong spelling i know) and hammer them into the trees after a few months they will start to die and tell them for safety it be best to get them cut down lol

alternatively, cut around the trunk of the tree 1 inch deep.
it will wilt away within months.
just be careful that the tree doesn't fall on your house ;)

I imagine most of the 200ft is hill rather than tree so not really much you can do about it except possibly mount your dish somewhere on the top of the hill (farmers/landowners will often rent you a small patch of land for this) and run a cable down to your house. If you have neighbours you might even be able to persuade them to invest in a communal dish to provide signal for all of you.

I saw an ad for Sky the other day in the paper about installing communual dishes in flats for free if 4 people sign up?? Im sure if some neighbours are in the same boat you might get the same deal?? Sky seem to be actively looking to get new subscribers from previously untapped areas like communual setups!!!

thanks for the suggestions folks but killing the trees is out they are in the garden behind our bungelow and yes most of it is hill our bungelow is cut into the hill which is why our garden is only 5ft long then there is this high bank behind us with trees all the way up to the top of the hill
