me and the boys are off to Amsterdam at the end of Sept for a stag doo. I haven't been for at least 10 years. anyone got any recommendations for things to do? obvs there are hookers and copious amounts of dope to be smoked but what else can we get up to?

any help much appreciated

cheers

Take in some culture, there's plenty of places to visit such as Rijksmuseum, Van Gogh Museum, Rembrtandt House Museum, Anne Frank Museum (if you fancy waiting in a mile long queue to see a cupboard), Sex Museum, Prostitute Museum.

Lots of venues for gig's, The Melkweg and Paradiso are world famous.

Take in a canal trip (I'm sure you guys would love it :) )

Take a piss in one of the outside, exposed to nature toilets around the RLD (do NOT take a dump there though).

If you do visit one of the cabins in the RLD, take note on what colour the lights are, you may get a bit more that you bargained for if it isn't red.

Eatery wise, there are plenty of Argentinian Steak Houses and fast food joint spread across the whole city, however I would thoroughly recommend the following at least once:

A cone of Chips & Mayonnaise.
Shoarma with hot sauce.
Noodles from Wok to Wok.

And definitely...

Churos with chocolate sauce from the little cake shop and gfast food place on the Damstraat across from The Doria.

If you don;t fancy a shmoke or space cake, then The Greenhouse has a Volcano Vaporiser, but you may have to wait in line to use it as it can be popular.

Anything else you wanna know, just ask :)

Where are you staying?

Here's a couple of interesting places in the centre of Amsterdam which most people are unaware of:

1. Near the end of one of the streets in the RLD (Oudezijds Voorburgwal 38) is the "hidden church" which was a Catholic church created inside an ordinary looking house.

2. Down a little alleyway (Pijlsteeg) next to the Hotel Krasnapolsky on Dam Square is Wynand Fockink, where you can sample dozens of flavoured jenevers (Dutch gin). Open 3pm to 9pm daily.

For good pubs, just consult my brother's guide at Amsterdam Pub Guide: the best beer bars, pubs and brewpubs but take his comments with a pinch of salt as he is an opinionated devil. Cafe Belgique and the Wildeman are particularly good.

Me and the missis going there in a couple of weeks for a few days,im gonna take her to the diamond center (thats if its still there, over 20 years since i been). Also gonna look at the flower market and cheese market, maybe a tour of heineken brewery (but im not sure on this as heineken beer is pish to me.. give me proper ale ) a couple of coffee shops and try a few local bars

sent from 2 tin cans and some string

For better beer in the centre of Amsterdam try this brewery:
Homepage – Brouwerij de Prael

Or, if you are prepared to travel a bit out of the city centre:
Home - | BROUWERIJ HET IJ |
Butcher's Tears – Brouwerij, Amsterdam

Seems that Culture, churches, cheese and flower markets don't really appeal to him. I wonder why?

cheers all, the pub happy hour guide came in handy. great time had by all spent a few days stoating around Amsterdam, Culture, churches, cheese and flower markets were unfortunately missed this trip. But we made it through to Utrecht on the Friday for a cracking night here Home: TivoliVredenburg and caught Ness, Ben Klock and some of Blawan and caught the flight home @ mid day.

It's nice that you seek out what to do, you have to do in Amsterdam all areas things.

If you do a private trip (and no organized tour) is a trip to Rotterdam also very nice. You buy a ticket easily, and on the train can also see a nice piece of Dutch landscape.
