Sensible Topic True or False?

most of this info seems to be untrue just like the figure thrown around about what was being sent weekly to the EU of 350M a week.

The 350 Million a week paid to the EU is a true figure !!!
But it is the Gross Figure and to fairly show the cost of EU membership it requires the deduction of benefits paid back to the UK such as Farming Subsidies (Although these can be paid for farmers not to grow certain crops to allow less well off member states sell those crops).

Hard to put a price on trade benefits - the BOE's latest update, with interest rate cuts, suggests that Brexit will cost the UK economy £50bn over the next three years. Makes the 350m gross figure look a bargain!

More scare tactics from the money men, the latest rate cut should enable small businesses to borrow money to expand and the slightly lower exchange rate of the £ will make exports from Britain more attractive and also make Britain a more attractive tourist destination.
BOE know full well that which ever way the interest rates go it will have a positive affect for some and negative affects for others...........a win win situation for the BOA.

Lower rates doesn't mean increased supply of credit, and the BOE is pushing hard against the zero lower bound. Interest rate rises slow economic growth, and drops stimulate it, but they've been quite clear that they don't have enough space to stimulate growth enough to compensate for brexit.

Has anyone added up the total?

Seeing as the official figure is 12 billion a year and that is for a 5 year period so total of 60 billion those figures dont look to far out.

We already established earlier in the thread that the figures are fake. Probably planted by the BNP if you trace the origins back to their source.

(you did read all of the thread didn't you?)

I did read it all and I read peoples opinions that it was fake but saw no evidence to back that up. With out totalling up all the figures I can not see how you can prove it one way or the other.

The figures are also inflammatory as they are for 5 years rather than a single year, we all know that the aid budget is around 12 billion a year so for the 5 years we are looking at about 60,000 million I do not think that the total on the op is much more that that so it is possible that it is true

If you're willing to discount post #18 and the fact that the document has only been published on far-right websites then you obviously want to believe the figures.

Can I make a suggestion though? Have a look at what we're supposed to have given North Korea since 2011 and then do some research yourself.

I really dont get your point the total comes to around 60 billion which is what the government says it spends on Aid (in a 5 year period) are you trying to say the government has lied and not spent that much? Or are you trying to say that the same amount was spent but given to different counties?

As I said the fact that its done as a five year study is what makes it look high but when you consider the totals over that period of time its about right.

And to be fair if you wish to prove that its fake then do so dont tell me to try and look up the aid budget for the last 5 year given by the UK to North Korea - give me the details and back it up by valid links.

You so want to believe don't you?

You keep saying those figures on that document total 'around' 60 billion. They actually add up to about 101 billion if you take the trouble to do the math. Then again, you weren't willing to check the North Korea fantasy figures so maybe you can't be arsed to check that either. :tumbleweed:

The document is very obviously a fake cooked up by the BNP.

A more important question might be 'Is it getting to the right places' given the number of economic migrants heading this way?

Indeed. The whole question of foreign aid needs a serious rethink. I'd just rather Nick Griffin wasn't spreading his usual insidious poison to soil the debate.
