Given its not happened for years so they changed the name to climate change what do people think?

I'll have to come clean. Climate change is happening, it's visible all around us.

Question really is why? Is it man-made? Is there something we can do? If so, what?

As it says climate change the planets billions of years old and they take a graph of the past 100 years , if they showed a graph of the past 10000 years we would laugh at this blip if we could even see it that is

Planet has been getting hotter since the ice age, we are just accelerating it, we also now have 400ppm co2 of the atmosphere I think that's our biggest problem, the planet will heat and cool every million or so years, future generations will have a tough time of it

Ignoring the fact some people in cooler climes were looking forward to warmer weather, the name was changed for a few reasons. One of the main ones being that some areas will see a reduction in temp. Take Ireland and the UK for example; if it wasn't for the gulf stream, which is predicted to fail in a less-salinated Atlantic ocean, we'd likely have weather more similar to that of Nova Scotia. Others won't see a change in temp, but may find the amount of precipitation changes (up or down).

Well, maybe. CO2 is certainly the most talked about and good for the argument against fossil fuels but methane is 20 times more detrimental. It's also the next largest offender in Greenhouse Gas terms. Unfortunately, most of the methane comes from sheep and cattle, rice paddy fields and landfill sites.

I guess that makes it unsuited to the arguments about what needs to be done. Shutting all the McDonalds and killing off all the sheep and cattle would be a hard sell!

Defo agree, its a combination of it all but since the industrial revolution there has no doubt been a spike, add the mass of man made chemicals ,poisons ect, the plant can't regenerate or heal at the rate that evolution has allowed, animals have always been about but the numbers we heard them at is unsubstantial, I don't think we do anything substantial, look at the amount of methane we pump into the air just to frack for gas

I think the movie the day after tomorrow sums it up well, maybe not so exagerated but with what I have heard the weather forecaster reporting only a week ago it seems to fit the bill.

the earth has always gone through cold and warm phases as the earths orbit moves closer and further away from the sun.

the earth atm is suppose to moving into a cold phase, but its actually getting warmer.

this could be because of man or volcanic action .

when 911 happened and America stopped all air traffic, so less pollution in the air, the temperature went up by 2 degrees . and that's a lot in such a short space of time.

but the real problem will be when the earth enters into its warm phase then we will be knackered.

When will this warm phase happen Mr @Ratts?. Summers are nothing like what we used to get years ago so what exactly has happened and more to the point what will the future hold?. well when the romans where here they could grow vines and make wine we are only able to do this in a small area of England and in america martha's vineyard which is quite far north

I find it quite strange that the blame is put on burning fossil fuels and car exhaust fumes, why is it never considered about all the bombing that goes on around the world, the fracking and mining and drilling for gas and oil.
All these things must have an effect on the Earth's construction and make up and therefore on the effects of natures other wonders that have an effect on what happens.
I feel sure that the above actions could more easily account for the increase in the Earth's movement that has caused recent earthquakes and Tsunamis and landslides etc.

We will never be uderwater unless we are hit by a massive ice ball and that would wipe everything out, but if all the ice sheets, glacers ect melted today there will still be a lot of land mass parts of russia, china, africa will be dry its mostly europe, americas, that will be under water and man will survive, well some of us, ie the rich

I bet that fecker Cameron has ordered an Arc to be built already.

And we will all pay for it just like hs2, but hey if its a benefit to London its a benefit to us all apparently

Well, fossil fuels are something activists can grab hold of and shout about. Methane not so much. Don't forget water vapour, that's a Greenhouse Gas too although getting rid of it will be tricky.

As for fracking, well the US is a hotspot but no increased earthquake activity? In any case, fracking/drilling/mining represents minimal change to the Earth's structure.

Nepal sits on the Indian Plate whereas the nearest plate boundary to the UK is hundreds of miles away.

And it's all surrounded by water H, so nothing will grow in years to come so bring your trunks and pick your strawberries. ;)
