Hi all as the title says im looking into an alternative for sugar due to trying to lose some weight.
Now i have tried all the normal sweeteners available and that half-spoon stuff for my tea and coffee and i drink loads of tea throughout the day and take two sugars so you see my dilemma,I got head aches and sore throats using sweeteners due to my 25 cups of tea a day i drink i think i od on the chemicals they use..
All this normal low calorie stuff makes my tea and coffee taste crap has anyone come across anything they have tried that actually tastes like sugar and in short would not know it was a sugar substitute.?

It's still unclear whether artificial sweeteners trigger an insulin response in humans purely by the sweet taste, have a search of that one but it means they could still put weight on you through a slightly different way.

Tannin in tea can restrict absorption of iron and some other things too, calcium, I think.

yes alot of pro and cons..tea also contains Flavonoids an diverse beneficial biochemical and antioxidant effects. Their dietary intake is quite high compared to other dietary antioxidants like vitamins C and E. The antioxidant activity of flavonoids depends on their molecular structure, and structural characteristics of certain flavonoids found in hops and beer confer surprisingly potent antioxidant activity exceeding that of red wine, tea, or soy.

Though it dont help my sugar intake.

I tried everything, used to take 2 sugars in Tea and 3 in Coffee, in the end I stopped all sugar in Tea and Coffee, that was years ago

I can still drink a Coffee if someone sugars it by mistake but prefer it without but If I so much as smell a cup of Tea with sugar in it makes me want to puke

I guess it's what you get used to but for me it's much better without :)

Same here. It can be tough at first, but after a while you find that sugar in tea or coffee tastes disgusting.

Sweeteners just tase vile.

My wife has started us on a low sugar diet (less than 10gs a day instead of the average of 90g). She's done so much research in to it. When i mentioned sweetners, she gave me an evil look. They are worse for you than sugar. The body doesnt digest it like normal sugar. It's hard to cut back on the sugar, but it's worth it. I havent lost any weight because of it.

I'm diabetic and have tried many alternatives to sugar i haven't had pure sugar for a couple of years now no sweets/chocolate ect.
but i will say the best replacement i found with no nasty taste is the Silver Spoon Sweetner 0 sugar 0 calories.
I also lost about 2.5 stone just cutting sugar out.

Hi many thanks for that info..you know I used silver spoon sweetner years ago you just triggered a memory and as you found it okay in tea and coffee..I have just tried Truvia sweetner from a plant the all new alternative to sugar..it is the most disgusting bitter mouth drying taste I have had in a super replacement and was bloody expensive...

Honey is diabetic neutral I have it in my green tea for breakfast haven't tried it in coffee in the interest of expirimentation I just made a coffee with honey and it is better than with sugar

Instead of thinking of quiting altogether just make an effort to stick to one sugar and you've automatically halved your intake without losing all the sugar taste you like.
I used to have 2 in my tea but have one now and if i have something sweet with a cup of tea like biscuits or easter egg i don't bother with any sugar in my tea at all.

Carobs taste better than honey and Carob powder can be used as a sugar replacement

I don’t know about the web, I get it from the Turkish shop. If it’s not on google I guess we haven’t caught on to it yet.
Here’s a google of it in Turkish, you’ll have to look at the English translated version

https://www.google.co.uk/?gfe_rd=cr&ei=cR0gVdO_GM-q8wfHg4GQCA&gws_rd=ssl#q=şeker+yerine+keçiboynuzu

I’ll have a look later see if I can find a English version

In English it’s called carob molasses

You should find reference to that on google

It has the most delicate sweet taste, makes my mouth water just writing about it, much better than honey. (In my opinion)
