Does anyone know if the hire car was in involved in a accident and written off. can the hire company still charge you per day for rental until the insurance company pays out keep on mind the other party is at fault

It should be in the T&Cs of the hire agreement. If it's not, seek the advice of the CAB - before contacting a solicitor (you may be entitled to free legal advice through any home or car insurance or if you're a member of a trade union).

If the third party has admitted liability, you'll get your money back.

NO.YOU would might still pay a small fee,you will get this back when things get clear as it was /is not your fault.
it will take time.

if the other car says it was not there fault things will change, always call police when its not your fault keep yourself safe and wright,i do,
if they are from out side uk your screwed.

did you have a dashcam ? , the last 2 people I know who had a crash (both not their fault) took the guys details while he confessed, got home and phoned the insurance only to find a few weeks later the other person denied everything.
Either,
Phone the Police
or
Use a dashcam even in a hire car, take your own camera and it's a simple lighter socket and a suction pad and your away. I have 1 back 1 front, you can't believe how many tailgaters shift of your arse when they spot the rear camera in the back window
