Are the details of the conviction confidential/subject to legal restriction. It would be good to know the specifics of the case.

Not all convictions are correct. Not all acquitals are correct.

I thought most of this was in the public Domain.

Effectively the case revolves around a hotel meeting where the victim woke up alone after being taken to a hotel by two men.

The verdict was she was too drunk / (spiked drink) to remember going to the hotel and thus too drunk to consent to sexual intercourse.

Summary but it is out there widely enough.

Nothing's restricted as far as I know.

I'm not going to spell out the details as they're easily found, but I will say that I think the conviction stinks.

I'm applying my own standards here of course, others may feel differently about it.

It's a bit difficult to know what to think but maybe he should keep his head down until after the CCRC review completes?

A lot of the vitriol being directed at him is because he has shown no remorse during his sentence, but the guy has stated from the outset that he is innocent and he is taking the case to appeal.
Surely if he were to show remorse then he would be admitting guilt.
Sheffield United and Oldham Athletic have both had threats of withdrawal from Sponsors should they sign him, and both clubs have received internet petitions with 40 to 50 Thousand signatures, I wonder how many of those ever attend the club's matches ? Obviously not the majority, so why should they wield such sway ?

I didn't realise that one person was found not guilty and Ched Evans was found guilty. Surely both should have been convicted or found not guilty, depending on whether you accept she didn't give consent. I can see why he would appeal.

That's just one of several aspects of the conviction that seems to be contrary to common sense.

None of us have heard the full evidence, and at least ten of the twelve jurors who did decided that he was guilty beyond a reasonable doubt, despite the evidence from the defence medical expert.
The conviction was strong enough to stand up at the Court of Appeal where three judges - including the Lord Chief Justice, the highest judge of the courts of England and Wales - unanimously rejected the appeal.

In my opinion, the most disturbing aspect of this case is that people seem unable to accept the verdict, even after the appeal was rejected.

An inquiry into the rape conviction of Welsh footballer Ched Evans has begun by the body that examines potential miscarriages of justice.

Evans was found guilty in April 2012 of raping a 19-year-old woman at a Premier Inn near Rhyl, Denbighshire, the previous May.

The Criminal Cases Review Commission (CCRC) said in October it would fast-track its inquiry, but said it was not policy to reveal why.

The investigation could take 35 weeks.

The former Sheffield United player was released from prison in October after serving half of a five-year sentence.

A CCRC spokesman said: "The case has not been prioritised because Mr Evans is relatively famous, because he plays football for a living, or for any reason external to the specific facts of the case.

"Prioritisation like this is not typical but it is by no means unprecedented.

"We prioritise applications where there is need and where it accords with our policy to do so, we expect to prioritise perhaps one or two such cases each month."

They did not make their decision based on evidence. Otherwise, it would be a retrial.

I started this thread as I was "on the fence" and to formulate an opinion wanted to know the facts or perhaps betetr put, how they are portrayed.

I hope others who have an opinion, those who do not have an opinion and even those who opine the law says he is guilty so he must have committed the crime can also become aware of the facts.

So according to you at least 10 jurors, 2 judges + the Lord Chief Justice ALL got it wrong???

Give over...you'll be saying she asked for it next.

Normally when a girl cries rape because she was too drunk I have my doubts. But that's why McDonald was innocent.
He knew her beforehand and was with her most of the night. Ched Evans actually went to the hotel knowing there was a drunk girl there, convinced hotel staff to let him in the room and had his way with her while his friends outside filmed through the window. If that doesn't sound rapey to you then you're probably just as ****ed up.

There is no excuses for what occurred, but in the eyes of the law he has stood trial and served his sentence.one could argue he has paid his debt to society yet what about the victims how have they been served...no doubt scarred for life.

is he not out on licence

appealing it so therefore not served punishment if indeed merrited

Out of order mate no need for personal insults

Oldham Athletic have abandoned their proposed signing of convicted rapist Ched Evans.

The ex-Wales international had been linked with a move to the League One club, but the Lancashire side now appear to have backed down following a huge public backlash that included a 60,000-strong petition.

The BBC report that a member of the Oldham board said deal has broken down owing to "enormous pressure from sponsors and threats to staff and their families."
