Sensible Topic Ched Evans

There has to be some sort of protection to the defendant.
This seems to happen often.
There names are dragged through the dirt while ched evans was unable to earn a living. Now he has been cleared he should have the option to claim compensation.
I know it's a tricky one as it could discourage victims from coming forward to what is a vile crime.
But now mr evans has been cleared you can't half think that he has been the victim.

If he was found guilty a long prison sentence would and should of been the best out come.
But he was found "not guilty" so now what?......

just forget about it and move?

stress of public personal life broadcast to the world.
not being able to earn an income.
media witch hunt.

Some would ask if justice has been served.

I think he was incredibly naïve but would never think of him as a beast. The Girl that alledged rape was never on trial so she has committed no crime. The state has now failed to prove Evans was guilty. I bet if this original trial was in Scotland we would have got the not proven verdict. I have a family member (female ) who was raped but the guy got off on a not proven. She still received criminal injuries compensation. Its a very difficult crime in certain circumstances and we have to rely on a fair trial and verdict decided by our peers. Don't think there should be a come back to the person who alledges the rape for the reasons stated in my other post.

The state convicted him so he should be able to claim compensation from them and not the alledger

Now let's have a grovelling apology from Jessica Ennis-Hill and everyone else who vilified Ched Evans after he had served his sentence and simply wished to resume his career. If he had been guilty, he had paid his debt to society and neither she nor anyone else had any right to demand an expression of remorse or anything else of him; due process was complete and he should not have been subjected to vigilante justice. Now that he has been found innocent, Jessica Ennis-Hill is in an embarrassing situation, caused by her own reckless actions, where she will have to eat her words. I always realised that this was a possibility, so why didn't she?

Will this overshadow the announcement of her retirement today? I hope that some interviewers have the courage to ask her some pertinent questions about the effect she has had on Ched Evans' life.

You can read the transcript of the first trial online, i've said all along he was innocent, she still states in the re-trial she was drunk & someone had spiked her drink, in the original trial it states they found no alcohol in her system but did find cocaine & cannabis which is so conflicting to what she was saying.

it's frightening that a jury could have convicted on that evidence.

And looking at what happened in this retrial, this one seems to be a bigger farce that the last one.

Amazing what a 50 grand 'reward' and so called new evidence can do.
The new evidence that was nothing more than a character assassination regarding the victims sexual history.

OK, I've read posts #10 and #13 already. No need to get upset.

I am pretty uncomfortable about this.
You can buy an awful lot of evidence for 50k.
Ched Evans is at the very least a cad and a bounder.

He doesn't get my sympathy

The man was guilty last time.
This jury decided differently, fair enough. This jury though weren't allowed to use some of the evidence from the previous trial.
You know river, the one where he was found guilty.
Funny that.

To be honest @Fangface mate no one is gonna change your mind.
I never posted a thing until the court case was over.
People are to quick to judge before they know the facts.
(and what is fact is NOT GUILTY)
Many had him guilty even before he went into court.
But rubbish comments about "what 50k can buy" is madness.

There is no real winner from all this. Both peoples lives have been turned upside down.
Its just unfortunate that a man found not guilty can't move on with comments you mentioned.

Why exactly her though?
She only said she'd want her name removing from the stand if Sheffield Utd re-employed a convicted rapist whose appeal had been dismissed.

A certain Deputy Prime Minister said he should never play for the club again, but ought to be allowed to train. But preferably overseas, in a sort of exile.

Another local MP, Paul Blomfield, said Evans should not be allowed to resume his career at all.

Paul Heaton, the singer with the Housemartins, agreed, and resigned as a club patron.

Dave Berry (a sixties pop star, I gather) also resigned on the same grounds - Evans was a convicted rapist and shouldn't be allowed to train.

Charlie Webster (Sky Sports) also resigned on the grounds that Evans shouldn't be allowed to train.

And Sheffield Utd's sponsors said they would bin the deal if Evans ever set foot on the pitch at Bramall Lane again (if he was employed by United).

So - Ennis said she didn't want to be associated with the club if Evans were re-employed. Two pop stars, one TV star and two MPs suggested that, at best, Evans should be exiled, and preferably never allowed to resume his career as a footballer.

But Ennis is the one who should make a grovelling apology for saying she wouldn't want to be associated with a club which employed unapologetic rapists (as Evans was at the time in the eyes of the law and much of the press) while the rest of them aren't being asked to utter a single word of apology for advocating that he never be rehabilitated at all and allowed to resume his profession?

I hate justice ?
