HI guys
Ive just renewed our insurance on the cars with direct line multicar, be very very careful....
I got the insurance documents though, everything correct except it was less my wifes car.

Rang them up, and they said they had no knowledge of her, even though the quote was in the same ball park figure for both cars on other insurance companies, in fact the cost of the policy i had already paid for was just for one car (over double the cost compared any other company).

They went on to explain that they DONT do multi car policies, they only do multi car discounts (wtf its more expensive than any other company).
They took both car details and both drivers, even on the policy it stated multi car discount.
I personally feel they Mislead me to their policy.

Ive kicked off at them as it could have meant that my wife would have been driving around with no insurance if i hadn't been so vigilant with the insurance, i know of a few people that never even check certs etc when they renew.

At no point during the application did direct line say the quote was for a single car, the spreadsheet was done in such a way it made me (a seasoned motorist) think that it was for both.

Because of their poor web site design skills, or blatant attempt to mislead new customers i will never entertain a quote or offer of insurance from this company.

Ive now got a full refund and have gone over to admiral who seem to be able to do the job correctly.
Just be very careful guys, if it could happen to me it could happen to anyone - BTW this isnt a rant just a heads up for you guys.....

My wifes car has been with Direct Line for years and we have never had any problems. When the kids got cars and tried insuring their motors for the first it far two expensive with all the other companies except Admiral. We went with as they were the cheapest and we did a multicar with son and daughter. Daughter had an accident someone ran into the back of her car and they palmed it off to a third party claims company who tried to presuade my duaghter to claim for everything including a hire car which if my daughter didnt win the claim would become liable for payment. Claim dragged on for ages and in the end had to settle so that we could terminate the claim. Checked my sons policy more carefully after this experience and noticed that the reason for the low insurance is that they cutback on everything ie. if he was involved in a serious accident and lost alimb or something would only get a grand or two in compensation unless he had taken out extra for major injury . We changed to another company the next time.

The wife is with direct line for the car, same as @Curious123 never had any problems/ kids insurance way too much with them. read this thread https://www.digitalworldz.co.uk/general-chat-8/399306-lost-ncd-excess-none.html just over a year ago a young lass crashed into the back of me in the wifes car and made a right mess of her car, direct line where very good and all over me like a rash with solicitors/hire car/repairers - very good. I would advise anyone who is thinking of insuring with Sheila's wheels DON'T DO IT. suppose you get what you pay for!

I don't doubt that the cover is good, i was and am highlighting the fact they tried to rip me off and as a consequence my wife would have been uninsured because of the way this company tries to confuse you. They don't do comparison sites so you are made to feel you have invested more before you have even taken out the policy.
I cannot and won't ever trust a company that works this way, even the operator said he had seen this a number of times and thinks its wrong (thats thier own staff).
Even now if you google multicar insurance direct line are on the first page, they still don't do it its a multi car discount, though the website now has a landing page saying its a discount it is still despicable way to drum up business.
be careful very careful
