I would say you could use the wireless mouse. My reasoning is that my old Pi allows me to use both a wireless mouse and keyboard. The wireless dongle as far as I can tell just replicates the signals a wired one would provide.
However in terms of quality, I’m unsure if it would be any good or...
Could you drill a hole in the rear door and mount a camera in the inside, it will also ensure the local tea leaves do not borrow it?
Bond some Perspex or glass to the outside to make is weather proof?
Migrated to VM back in Sept, initially I was getting great WiFi speeds that actually matched the connection speed 0.5 gig!

Also to satisfy @nara they were set up using the utility and were running the latest firmware. So no need to RTFM.........
My comments above relate to actual experience and not some anecdotal hogwash.
They were installed and working fine for around 6 months, then out of the blue I stated getting random disconnects. Each disconnect resulted in a reduction in sync speed, which in turn reduces the throughput.

They are more of an issue if you have ADSL or FTTC.
If you have one near your modem, they can introduce severe electrical noise that will in turn create a lot of FEC errors on your modem. FEC errors are not a bad thing per se as it’s an indication that the modem is handling the corrections...
