Removing a copyright mark takes about 2 minutes so marking a photo won't stop somebody using it behind your back if they really want to. And marking or not makes no difference to the copyright status - you take it you own it. Bottom line is you won't know about it unless the photo turns up...

All good advice above. Bear in mind that field of view is a factor but probably more important to portrait photography is distortion of the subjects face.
